As much as I love the anime adaption, I consider the manga the definite version of the story. I'm a big fan of the manga since I discovered it in Japanese around 2019. It's one of the best written romantic comedies I know and got on my personal olymp on par with Maison Ikkoku, even though it's "only" a shounen manga. The character's interactions are really well written and the constant call backs to earlier plot details keeps you hooked to the leads' romantic and maturity development. The anime is a really faithful adaption with excellent music and pretty character designs, but it sometimes simplifies or merges plot points which were better laid out in the manga, albeit mostly separated into separate chapters instead of an ongoing story plot point.
I knew before clicking on the article that the reviewer would single out Sakurai Norio's art as a weak point; Kevin is not the only one who has a problem with the art's "inconsistency" how he calls it, but I personally really like it, even the more cartoonish one from the first volume and the scribly one when she draws the characters simplified with few details and more in a cute super deformed style. I bet that Norio is an artist who can draw very quickly and puts most emphasis on close-ups. |
