I'm a huge fan of Yoshitaka Amano's work, own several of his artbooks (including Deva Zan and all thirteen issues of the ZAN comic on Kindle), but I really don't like how they're framing this project.
There's nothing unique or special about it being hand-animated, and the golden age of anime certainly isn't over. There's a whole new generation of immensely talented sakuga webgen animators from all over the world, that are challenging each other to consistently improve and push the quality of animation to new levels. I feel like there's maybe just a recognition that the last animation project associated with Amano, Gibiate, was a complete train wreck, and also skepticism stemming from his embrace of NFTs. |

That still doesn't and should not diminish the hard work of the people who made it. We should be happy that more 2d animated projects are being made.
