I'm thinking I want to pick CLOVER up, probably gonna wait till Otakon and attempt to snag a copy there. Wanted to see a review/rating to some degree but I think I'm 100% sure on it now...

I have been wanting to pick up CLOVER for ages but the bookstores I keep going to haven't had it (or at least not where I could find it, for some reason it looks like Chapters, the Canadian chain, has it shelved with other graphic novels instead of manga, which isn't helping). But it's definitely one of the next up on my buying list.
For when I have money. As is the usual refrain. Oh Gravitation. The art does get better in the later volumes. And then it shifts and Shuichi looks about 12 and the story REALLY falls apart...but it has great nostalgia for me regardless. I read one chapter of Nightschool in the YenPlus magazine and thought it sounded interesting. Svetlana is enough for me to check it out and I don't mind the genre quite as much so hopefully that won't be an issue. Finally, Ohikkoshi sounds like it could be very interesting. And very different from Blade of the Immortal...I've read a bit of it but never quite got into it. Definitely something worth checking out in a bookstore. |

I actually bought Youkai Doctor based off Carlo's review and needless to say I am surprized for once that Del Ray licensed a manga that isn't stupid, nothing but fanservice or moe. Yes there a very tiny bit of fanservice, but it isn't nearly as bad as some of the trash Del Ray has licensed in the past.
Del Ray did a fantastic job with Genshiken and Love Roma, but after that, there hasn't been many series Del Ray has licensed that is midily intelligent. I really like the cast members (especially the male main character). But I really hope there is minimal fanservice in this series, this could turn out to be quite a fascinating work if done right. |

Note to self: check out "Clover" and "Detroit Metal City" as soon as possible...
and also: Yes, volume 3 is where it gets good.  20th Century Boys is like a massive train; it takes it a good long while to get up to speed but once it does... And as soon as my next paycheck comes in, I'm getting volume 3.

Jack Ill Dark isn't based on Ozzy Osbourne, he is based on Gene Simmons.
Ironically, if what I heard is correct, Jack Ill Dark appears in the live action movie, and is played by Gene Simmons. |

I just read 20th Century Boys #1, and I really enjoyed it, but I just don't see how it can be 22 volumes (if the encyclopedia is right)! I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
And seriously, my fellow BL fans, skip Gravitation if you haven't already read it. It might be an institution, but that's just because it was the only thing readily available back then. Watch the anime and get the entire experience in a MUCH better format. And yeah, Night School sucks hard-core, and you verbalized it way better than I ever could. But at Anime North it seemed everyone was carrying it around, probably because they wanted to get it signed by the author. I saw her was sitting at her table and not being mobbed by fans like I thought she would be, but whatever. If I hadn't literally lost my voice due to a cold that persists to this day, I would have totally bitched at her for the whole Dramacon #2 "OEL VS MANGA" thing... (NO I WILL NOT GET OVER IT RAAR)

Detroit Metal City develops more of a plot later on, but i agree on this grade for the first volume.

? Maybe I'm missing something, but this strikes me as a somewhat odd opinion, since personally I think that Del Rey's got a pretty strong line up (Parasyte, Mushishi. Me and the Devil Blues, Zetsubou-sensei and of course Genshiken). Sure, they have plenty of fluff too, but applies jsut as well to any of the other publishers. |

Oh, keep reading, you'll see. The story's broken up into about 3 parts, and hey, so are the movies  (I want to see the 2nd one sooo bad right now). But the story's so gripping you won't realize it's 22 volumes by the end of it. I loved monster but this was so much better. I'm afraid to pick up Pluto and get sucked into that as well

Sorta. In fact it's more like 24 volumes, as the story is only properly finished in 21st Century Boys. As to how it can go on for so long - never underestimate Urasawas ability to make a story keep on going. No matter how many weird plot twists he has to introduce. |

I agree. The later volumes of the manga get way too ridiculous, so it's best to go with the anime. I can't wait to pick up 20th Century Boys and Clover. <3 |
