My hearts goes out to him and his family. Peter Fernandez is the important part of anime in USA. I like his voice as Speed and Racer X. I also believe he voiced a few character in Ultraman (I have the DVD with the English dub from the 60's). RIP Peter Fernandez you are a important person for the anime industry in the US.

I didn't watch a lot of Speed Racer back when the series was still carried in syndication on *insert local UHF channel that used to carry it in your particular area here,* but I've seen it in enough bits and pieces that I'd be remiss if I didn't pay my proper respects to a pioneer of and significant contributor to an earlier era of anime in the States.
"Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer, he's a demon on wheels..." Mr. Fernandez actually wrote those very words? More of a contributor than I ever realized...wow. EDIT: *reads mdo7's link* Goodness. He really _was_ Speed Racer. I refer to not just the character but also the whole original franchise and everything he did for it. That's a big "everything." (End of edit) At any rate, may he rest in peace and may the checkered flag wave triumphantly for him as he takes a well deserved victory lap in heaven. |

I honestly can't say I've seen or heard a lot of his work, but he'll be sorely missed. He was among the first English dub actors, and things wouldn't have gotten to the way they are now without his contributions.

Even at the tender age of 16, I'm well-read enough to know that the anime industry in America wouldn't be the same without Peter Fernandez. Instrumental in the bringing over and dubbing of anime, Fernandez was a man who saw the potential in the world of Japanese animation, and knew that someday it could turn into the industry it has today. He knew that it contained a certain depth and aesthetic coolness which American animation at the time lacked, and in the earliest days of anime, he fought to get it airtime on network television. Because of his services to the industry, anime is now widely popular in North America, and easily available, playing every day on certain channels. None of this would've happened without Peter.
First we lost the legendary Mr. Carl Macek, and now we have lost another giant player in old school anime. If anime was a business, Carl Macek was the promoter, and Fernandez was the CEO. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and I hope he rests in peace. Go, Speed, Go... |

The passing of Peter Fernandez is a major loss to not only anime but to entertainment in general. Words cannot describe the sheer amount of sadness I'm feeling. He was one of the biggest pioneers in anime voice acting and to see him gone is nothing short of sorrow.
May you rest in peace, Peter. Thank you for your contributions to anime and entertainment for these past decades. P.S. Say what you want about Peter Fernandez but in my eyes, he was the king of "gasps" for cartoon characters. |

So may look back at old anime dubs and say good god but as someone who watched a lot of old cartoons because Nick and Cartoon network could not afford to make their own yet Speed racer was on of the fun ones to watch.

Man so many people good people passing away this week. I love Speed Racer so much even the rivalry between Speed and brother Racer X. I kinda amused that Mr. Fernandez did both roles in the anime, in my heart it was the best anime of all time even in the dubbing department. I'm glad to see such a great show like Speed Racer on Cartoon Network in my generation, but I will never forget how I love anime so much and I hope in the future continue it furthermore. Plus for I understand that death is part of life and we may have to accept it to the end. It's not giving up but just feel you know it's time. But back to thanking Mr. Fernandez, I'm glad as person and friend to hear such even his last role was KuroKami, I'm definite buying the whole series soon. Still I thank Mr. Fernandez and to everything you have done for cartoon (including anime) industry for so long. God Bless you and let God look over your family. We'll keep praying.

This is horrible. For all it's flaws, Speed Racer was an amazing show, and Peter Hernandez was an amazing Speed, and an accomplished voice actor in his own right, having worked on several anime and tokusatsu. He will be missed.

Indeed, words can't describe Peter's role for the anime industry. The same thing for Carl Macek (I knew he made some mistake in the past but his contribution was important). Without those 2, the anime industry would not've been what it is today and ANN would not have exist if it hasn't been for both Peter Fernandez and Carl Macek. I wish Peter would've seen the popularity of anime and how he play a big role in it. He probably knew or was suprised. He would've been so proud for what he did. Now I'm more sad that we lost 2 greatest person who helped with anime in USA. I wish Japan could recognize Peter Fernandez for his role of bringing anime to USA. I would love if the Japanese gave him a honorary award for his anime contribution, if Frederik L. Schodt got multiple award and honor from Japan for outstanding contribution to the appreciation of manga worldwide and contributions to the international spread of Japanese culture, particularly in his manga translations, his academic work, and his friendship with the late creator Osamu Tezuka. Then Peter should have this similar award but for helping anime in USA. I would want Japan to recognize him and honor him for his role for bringing anime to USA.
Peter Ferandez last anime role was in Kurokami as a minor character. Did Peter knew he was going to die and his last wish was to lend his voice for an anime? If he did, I praise him for it and it was something he would want to do before he pass away. I like to ask does Peter Fernandez have any family that is involved with anime business like is one of his relative a anime VA, or something like that? Peter Fernandez, I cannot believe you passed away!!! The forefather of anime dubbing is gone... This is a sad day for me because I was always a huge huge speed racer fan in the early 90's and gained a renewed love for it when I finally got the DVD's in 2007... Sadly the Wachowski brothers film I hated.... But still... Peter Fernandez your going to be sorely missed. |

Peter had so much joy in meeting fans of all generations when he went to conventions and you could see it when you met him and the best thing is that Everybody knew who Peter was through watching Speed Racer or through their parents.
You reached the Finish Line, Speed! Great Race! Great Life! Thank You, Peter!

I was really sad to read this news on ANN today, especially since I just watched the live-action Speed Racer film back on Sunday (and I hadn't even realized Peter had had a cameo in it... somehow, I missed him). My 9-year-old son was also sad to hear this, too, because he really likes the Speed Racer anime series. I'll have to let my older daughter know when she comes home from camp this weekend (she likes Star Blazers, and she knows the Bolar Wars episodes).
Wow... what a year for deaths of those involved in some of the earlier English anime dubs. First Carl Macek (Robotech), then Peter Keefe (Voltron and Saber Rider), and now Peter Fernandez. They say these things come in threes, so I hope this will be the last of these for a while. |
