Naoko Takeuchi is the wife of Yoshihiro Togashi, the mangaka of the famed YuYu Hakusho and Hunter X Hunter series. 

"Sailormoon," as with its sequels, takes place on an actual location: Azabu-Juuban, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Obvious references include a shopping center with the trademark hexagonal signs and the Tokyo Tower.

Naru-Chan, Usagi's best friend mother owns a jewlery store. The name of it(OSA-P) was a pun on Naoko Takecuhi's Editor's nickname("Osapi")

In the edited English series distributed by DIC, there are only 40 episodes. Six episodes were cut out because of various reasons including the last episode which was originally a two-part episode.

The members of Usagi's family were named after Naoko's own family: Kenji (father), Ikuko (mother), and Shingo (brother).

In Ep. 7 of the Japanese airing, Usagi's transformation changes to include the glowing nail polish.

In the English titles, there are four Blues episodes: Ep. 5 Computer School Blues, Ep. 9 Cruise Blues, Ep. 13 Wedding Day Blues, Ep. 34 Ski Bunny Blues

In the episode "Time Bomb," according to the readout on Sailor Mercury's goggles or her mini-computer, you could see three prime directives: Serve the public trust, Protect the innocent, and Uphold the law. These are the three prime directives that are from the first RoboCop film. 

The Barenaked Ladies song "Still Be One Week Till We Say We're Saorry" contains a Sailor Moon reference in its fourth verse.

The Sailor Says segments at the end of each episode of the DiC English dub were added by DiC for educational purposes.

The recording sessions for the DiC English dub were incredibly long and time consuming. According to Roland Parliament who was the voice director for the majority of the run, recalled that the sessions started at 10 am and were not finished until 1 am the next morning. While the individual voice actors would only be there for a few hours, as voice director Roland had to be there for all the sessions.

Lisa Dalbello had no acting experience when she was called in to voice a few monsters for the DiC English dub. She was a singer who was working at the same studio, and knew director Roland Parliament. They were short on actors to voice monsters, so he asked her to try it. The studio ended up liking her voice so much, she was called back many times.

The Loop Groups for the DiC English dub were often required to supply background voices for several episodes. The voice actors would often try to sneak curse words and other profanities past the directors, and not all of them would be edited out.

According to an advertising promo, DiC originally planned to have the Sailor Warrior's English names be Victoria(Usagi), Blue(Ami), Dana(Rei), Sara(Makoto) and Carrie(Minako) rather than Serena, Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina.

When Sailor Moon does the "In the name of the moon" speech, Sailor Moon makes the American Sign Language symbol for "I Love You" with her hands.

In the original manga, Tuxedo Mask never once throws a rose as an attack as depicted in this anime series.

All the transformations of the Sailor senshi in the DiC English dub have been edited to remove bodylines (breasts, etc). When Viz Media did their own English dub of the series, the transformations remained intact.

Queen Beryl's four lieutenants Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite, and Kunzite (Malachite in the DiC English dub), are also the names of minerals from the beryl family.

Mamoru’s name means "protector" while the first part of his last name “chi” means Earth. Chiba Mamoru means Protector of [the] Earth. Much like how the Sailor senshi have their planet name in their own last names. According to Naoko Takeuchi, Tuxedo Mask is the equivalent of Sailor Earth.

While Usagi’s high school is called "Juuban High", for the DiC English dub it was called “Crossroads Junior High". The English name is believed to have come about because of the symbol for the school looking like a crossroads.

While Yuichiro Kumada was introduced as panhandler prior to living at the Hikawa Shrine. In the DiC English dub, his name was changed to Chad Kumada and was introduced as a struggling musician who speaks with an Australian accent mixed with surfer lingual.

Karen Bernstein, the first voice of Amy/Sailor Mercury for the DiC English dub, feared that her voice would sound too similar to Katie Griffin who was voicing Sailor Mars. To distinguish the two, she opted to give Amy a voice that was closer to a Queen's Received accent; feeling that Amy read lots of dictionaries and encyclopedias for fun, so she would speak in a very formal way with perfect grammar and elocution.

Tracey Moore, the first English voice of Serena/Sailor Moon, only did voice work for the first thirteen episodes of the DiC English dub. The reason being was during production, she had conflicting contracts and was cast as the lead in a play that would mean she was only free for a handful of days a week. As Optimum founder Nicole Thuault wanted her fully available, she left the series and was replaced with Terri Hawkes.

Karen Bernstein is known for being very private, and has avoided interviews and conventions for the most part. However, she did gave a testimony to the 2014 Sailor Moon Reflections book - where she recalled doing voice work for the series a highlight of her life and thanked the fans for their support.

The “make up” battle cry was originally going to be included in the DiC English dub, but it was decided to replace it with a different phrase. According to Stephanie Morgenstern (Sailor Venus) she remembered reading the battle cry off of her original script and being baffled at that being considered an empowerment message. When Viz Media did their own English dub, the battle cry was finally used.

Jill Frappier was originally rejected right before her audition for being "too old" to voice Luna for the DiC English dub. Despite that she has voiced children and teenagers in other voice over productions. However, hours after being rejected, she was asked to do her audition with the instructions to give the character a voice that was a cross between Queen Victoria & C3PO. After giving a voice over performance she was cast as Luna instantly.

The concept of Zoisite and Kunzite being lovers was exclusive to this series, as they were not depicted as being lovers in the original manga. When DiC did their English dub, Zoisite’s gender was changed from male to female in order to remove any references to homosexuality. Zoisite would eventually be presented in his proper gender with the later English Dub from Viz Media.

In episode 1 (Japanese airing) Sailor V made a non-speaking appearance during the daydream scene. This makes her the first Sailor Senshi to physically appear in the series.

The plot in episode 2 (Japanese airing) was the first anime exclusive episode to not be based on a preexisting manga chapter.

In episode 2 (Japanese airing), it was the first episode to be skipped for DiC’s English dub. This may of possibly been due to scenes of Umino being possessed and was displaying some troublemaking antics. Such antics like: flipping Miss Haruna's skirt, vandalizing a teacher's window, and forcing Usagi to kiss him.

In episode 9 (Japanese airing), while in the time warp Sailor Mercury's mini-computer had a read out of three prime directives: Serve the public trust, Protect the innocent, and Uphold the law. These are the three prime directives that are from the first RoboCop film.

In episode 9 (Japanese airing), the shopping district in which Usagi and Ami were shopping at is Tokyo's Harajuku district. This shopping district is known for its trendy shops and flamboyant fashions.

In episode 9 (Japanese airing), when Usagi was riding on the bus, one of the passengers bears a resemblance to Minako who was yet to make her debut in this series.

In episode 9 (DiC Dub), the tissues that Usagi/Serena won in the Japanese version as a consolation prize was changed to bars of soap.

In Episode 10 (Japanese airing), when the shrine visitors are waiting for the 6pm bus, one of the girls has a Gyopi keychain on her school bag. Gyopi is from Goldfish Warning! (Kingyo Chuuihou!), from the same animation company as Sailor Moon, Toei Animation.

In episode 20 (Japanese airing), marks the first episode where the Dark Kingdom is completely absent. It was also the first episode where they do not have anything to do with the events of the episode and the Sailor Senshi do not fight a member of the Dark Kingdom or one of their Youma.

In episode 42 (Japanese airing), it was the fifth episode to be skipped during DiC’s English dub. The reason it was skipped may of had to do with a scene featuring a usage of a hand grenade and the plot involving a mature themed love triangle.
