Trivia:

Namakura Gatana is one of the oldest Japanese animated films. In July 2007, it was discovered by film historican Natsuki Matsumoto in an antique shop in Osaka with another film called Urashima Tarō (1918).

The film survived in good condition since the paper container provided enough ventilation.

Namakura Gatana was shown alongside 95 other old and restored movies at the National Film Center of National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo for a film festival in April 2008.
