Description:
An adaptation of Minetaro Mochizuki's popular Manga of the same name, director Katsuhito Ishii's quirky, gun-crazy road movie arrives on US shores courtesy of Kino Video. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, the image appears a bit soft in some of the darker scenes though forest greens are vibrant and blacks solid throughout. Presented in Japanese Dolby Digital Stereo with optional English subtitles, the audio track certainly gets the job done with fair use of punchy gunshot effects and no notable distortion. English subtitles are easy to read with bold black outlines. The only extras included are trailers such as those for director Takashi Miike's Dead or Alive films, and though the Japanese film buff will certainly get a kick out of them it seems curious that the disc is so bare bones given the media-friendly origins of the film.
