Lupin III: Legend of the Gold of Babylon DVD on Hold

Discotek delays movie, which was never released on region 1 DVD

Reed Nelson, the adminstrator of the LupintheThird.net website, reports that Discotek Media has put its DVD release of Lupin III: The Legend of the Gold of Babylon on indefinite hold due "to the state of anime sales (i.e., slow)." The former North American licensee, AnimEigo, had previously released this caper movie on videotape and laserdisc, but not on DVD. (AnimEigo had changed the name of the titular thief Lupin to "Rupan" to avoid legal issues with the estate of Maurice Leblanc, author of the Arsène Lupin novels.)

Discotek just released the Lupin III: The Fuma Conspiracy video on DVD at the end of October, and Nelson provided a full-length commentary on this release. Discotek first revealed that it licensed the rights to certain Lupin III titles in August of 2005.
