Godzilla PS3 Game's 2nd Video Pits Monster Against His Foes

Mecha Godzilla, Ghidorah, Mothra make face off against TOHO's iconic monster

Bandai Namco Games began streaming the second promotional video for its PlayStation 3 game Godzilla on Thursday. The video shows the classic Godzilla facing off against Mecha Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mothra.

The narrator intones:

Can humanity control Godzilla? After six decades, Godzilla makes landfall, destroying all in its path. Godzilla invades to seek energy. As the devastation expands for humanity, the disaster level mounts. Humanity's counteroffensive intensifies — Mecha Godzilla MFS-3 launches. Then, the greatest rivals appear before Godzilla. The King of Monsters attacks.

This winter, the greatest battle in Godzilla's history begins on the PlayStation 3.

Godzilla for the PlayStation 3 makes landfall on December 18, 2014. The first copies of the game will include an early unlock code for the Hollywood Godzilla (2014) as a bonus extra. Pre-orders will include one of three randomly distributed "Heat Up Godzilla" reproductions of theater bonus figurines.

Bandai Namco Games will release the "ultra-destructive Godzilla action" game in Japan on December 18. The game lets you play the monster itself against human civilization, as you clear missions by destroying buildings and weapons. The game will recreate the look of tokusatsu (special effects) movies, including signature tokusatsu camera angles and gunpowder explosions, with the latest graphics.

Famitsu magazine described a backstory that takes its cues from TOHO's first Godzilla movies: Godzilla, who appeared in Tokyo in 1954 and was brought down by the secret weapon Oxygen Destroyer, has somehow made landfall again. The player must destroy buildings in the stage with Godzilla's iconic attacks. The game will also have the 2014 American version of Godzilla from Gareth Edwards and Legendary Pictures.
