Vocaloid opera project will feature no humans onstage

The 2015 Holland Festival will host Vocaloid digital idol Hatsune Miku's "The End" opera project in the Dutch National Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam on June 4 and 5.

Digital music artist Keiichirō Shibuya and artist YKBX (also known as Masaki Yokobe) will collaborate to present the opera. Hatsune Miku will appear onstage alongside an animal (also digital). No human will appear onstage except for Shibuya. YKBX designed the onstage images. The opera will center on themes such as a post-3/11 world, "The End," and "life and death."

Both the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media in Yamaguchi City, and the Theatre du Chatelet Opera House (pictured right) in Paris have previously hosted Hatsune Miku's "The End" opera in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Both featured Miku in outfits from French fashion brand Louis Vuitton.

Miku will also hold a concert in the Nippon Budōkan arena on September 4 and 5.
