Kyoto Animation Posts Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Anime's 1st Video, January 11 Debut Date

posted on by Egan Loo

The official website for the television anime of Coolkyoushinja's Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon or The Dragon Maid of Kobayashi-san) manga updated with the first promotional video on Wednesday.

Both the video and the website announced that the anime will premiere on January 11 at 00:00 (effectively January 12 at midnight) on the Tokyo MX channel, followed by the ABC Asahi Broadcasting, TV Aichi, and BS11 channels. The website also posted a new key visual:

The cast includes:

Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, a single office lady who likes maids

Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, a dragon girl who loves Kobayashi and comes from another world

Maria Naganawa as Kanna, a dragon girl who follows Tohru

Yūki Takada as Eruma, a dragon girl who does not get along with Tohru

Minami Takahashi as Rukoa, a dragon girl who has been living in this world for a long time

Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Tohru's friend from the other world

Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, another worker at Kobayashi's company

Seven Seas is publishing the manga in North America, and it describes the story:

Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi's normal life is about to go off the deep end!

Yasuhiro Takemoto (Amagi Brilliant Park, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Hyōka, Lucky Star) is directing the anime at Kyoto Animation. Yuka Yamada (Neo Angelique Abyss, Samurai Warriors, Umi Monogatari) is in charge of the series scripts, and Miku Kadowaki (Amagi Brilliant Park, Beyond the Boundary) is designing the characters.

Mikiko Watanabe is the art director, and Yūka Yoneda is the color key artist. Seiichi Akitake is designing the props, and Akihiro Ura is director of photography. Yota Tsuruoka is directing the sound, and Masumi Itou is composing the music at Lantis. The band fhana is performing the opening theme song, and the group Choro-gonzu (the characters Tohru, Kanna, Eruma, and Rukoa) is performing the ending theme song.

Coolkyoushinja began the ongoing series in the inaugural issue of Futabasha's Monthly Action magazine in May 2013. Futabasha published the manga's fourth compiled book volume on May 12, and will publish the fifth volume on December 12. A spinoff manga will begin on December 24. Seven Seas published the first volume of the original series in North America on October 18.

Coolkyoushinja's four-panel manga Danna ga Nani o Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken (I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying) has inspired two television anime, both of which streamed on Crunchyroll as they aired in Japan. Coolkyoushinja's Komori-san wa Kotowarenai! (Komori-san Can't Decline) manga also inspired an anime that streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired.
