The official website for the Overlord anime franchise unveiled the key visual on Sunday for Overlord: Shikkoku no Senshi (Overlord: The Dark Warrior), the second of two compilation films for the anime. The website also announced that OxT will perform the theme song "Laughter Slaughter."
In addition, the website announced that people who order advance tickets during the first advance ticket sales period beginning on January 28 will receive a movie ticket card and replacement cover (seen below) for the original novel. Original character designer (and original novel illustrator) so-bin illustrated the replacement cover, and it will feature silver leaf. The first compilation film is offering similar bonus items and a cover with gold leaf during its second advance ticket sales period, which opened on December 24.
People who attend screenings of the first compilation film, Overlord: Fushisha no Ō (Overlord: The Undead King), will receive the Pleiades na Hi (Pleiades Day) novel written by light novel author Kugane Maruyama. so-bin's full-color illustration will feature on page 8 of the novel.
Overlord: Fushisha no Ō will open on February 25, and Overlord: Shikkoku no Senshi (Overlord: The Dark Warrior) will open on March 11. (The films' titles are also the titles of the first two volumes in Maruyama's original Overlord light novel series.) The films will add new scenes, and original character designer (and original novel illustrator) so-bin drew rough drafts for new characters. The musical group MYTH&ROID is returning from the television series to contribute the theme song "Crazy Scary Holy Fantasy" for the first film.
The 13-episode Overlord television anime series premiered in Japan in July 2015. The story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.
Funimation streamed the anime series as it aired in Japan, and the company released the series with an English dub on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on November 8.
The 11th novel volume also bundled a Blu-ray Disc that contains 30 minutes of new footage of the Ple Ple Pleiades chibi anime short series, featuring the appearance of the Pleiades combat maids, as well as the rest of the Floor Guardians.
Maruyama began the original light novel series online in 2010, and Kadokawa's Enterbrain imprint then published it in print with illustrations by so-bin in 2012. The series has over 2.5 million copies in print in Japan. Yen Press licensed the novel series for North America, and will publish the third volume on January 31. Yen Press also published the third volume of Hugin Miyama and Satoshi Ōshio's manga adaptation on December 20.
