There will be a touring programme of Japanese films from January 31 to March 29 2020, including Masaaki Yuasa's anime film Ride Your Wave. The Ride Your Wave screening details will be put up here, though no screenings have been confirmed yet.

Films from the Touring Programme, which is mounted by The Japan Foundation, will be shown at the following venues, although it's not confirmed if Ride Your Wave will be screened at all of them: Belmont Filmhouse, Aberdeen; Queen's Film Theatre, Belfast; Watershed, Bristol; Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff; Storyhouse, Chester; Firstsite, Colchester; QUAD, Derby; Dundee Contemporary Arts; Filmhouse, Edinburgh; Exeter, Phoenix; Square Chapel, Halifax; Eden Court, Inverness; Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal; Phoenix, Leicester; Depot, Lewes; ICA London; HOME, Manchester;Tyneside, Newcastle; Broadway, Nottingham; Showroom, Sheffield; Stamford Arts Centre and University of Stirling.

Masaaki Yuasa directed Ride Your Wave at his Science SARU studio. Reiko Yoshida (Lu over the wall, A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird) wrote the film's script, and Michiru Oshima (Patema Inverted, The Night is Short Walk On, Girl) composed the music. The film is about a woman, Hinako, who moves to a coastal town. She loves surfing, and when she's on the waves she's fearless, but still feels uncertain about her future. When a fire wreaks havoc in the town, Hinako encounters the young firefighter Minato. As they surf and spend more time together, Hinako feels drawn to Minato, who devotes himself to helping other people.

The screenings in the touring programme also includes the live-action film of Homura Kawamoto and Tōru Naomura's Kakegurui - Compulsive Gambler manga. The film is described on the website as follows:

"At Hyakkaoh Private Academy students are ranked on their gambling abilities rather than grades. The coveted prize for becoming the ultimate gambling champion is a ‘blank future’ that will give the winner autonomy over their life after graduation. Who will win happiness by betting on their lives?"

The film was directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa and the cast includes Minami Hamabe, Mahiro Takasugi and Elaiza Ikeda.
