My New Devil Wife
What's It About?

Mercenary adventurer Theo Aspel is tragically weak, leaving him no choice but to repeatedly join various parties―only to get kicked out. To get stronger, he succeeds at summoning a demon that will grant him a wish. But the minute he sees her, his wish to get stronger flies straight out the window. This devil, who hadn't been summoned in many years, declares: "I will grant your wish, but you must give me something precious to you."
Theo stutters out a reply: “W―will you marry me?”
The devil is stunned to say the least, but grants his wish, making them husband and wife. They embark on a happy married life together, causing quite a stir around them along the way. This is a story of a boy and a girl who're just a tiny smidge dirty.
My New Devil Wife Volume 1 is written and drawn by Tonarikeru, original story by shiryu. Published by One Peace Books (October 21st, 2025).

If blatant wish-fulfilment fantasy with an uncomfortably shotacon vibe is your thing, then My New Devil Wife is laser-focused to attract your attention. Anyone else can steer clear. Pure-hearted fourteen-year-old protagonist Theo is an orphan brought up by a caring elderly couple who died, leaving him to fend for himself in a world of monsters and adventurers. Without magic or fighting skills, Theo subsists as a disposable supporter for adventurer parties who mistreat him, pay a pittance for his work, then discard him when they're done with him. It's a sad existence, but at least the pretty adventurer guild ladies appreciate him, with one even fantasizing over his prepubescent body. Yes, despite his true age, Theo looks, at most, like a cherubic eight-year-old boy, with enormous, moist eyes and round, chubby cheeks. Any characters lusting over him deserve a punitive visit from whatever services function as a police force in this world.
So it's a little surprising that the first thing Theo wishes for when he summons Helvy, a buxom, beautiful yet terrifyingly threatening wish-granting demon, is for her to marry him. Perhaps being demonic and therefore lacking in normal human morals, she readily agrees, supposedly because she can tell just how treacly sweet and pure his ickle wickle human heart truly is, and her own heart is melted. Or perhaps it's authorial commentary on how those adults who act on their sexual urges towards children belong in the pit of hell, though I doubt it.
Thankfully, apart from a few out-of-place lewd jokes and some unnecessarily rapey propositioning of Helvy by some horrible adventurers, the manga is mostly played quite innocently. Theo and Helvy don't do a lot more than hold hands and almost kiss, though it's clear Theo is very attracted to Helvy, and she has lewd intentions towards him that she intends to act on, eventually. I'm unsure if the content gets racier in later volumes or not, but if so, I will very much not be there for it.
My New Devil Wife's art is clean and attractive, perhaps almost too clean for the medieval-style world it's meant to be set in. Character designs tend to be very cute, especially Theo himself, who often looks like a male version of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid's tiny child character Kanna, which makes the adult female characters openly lusting over him deeply concerning. For the moment, Theo and Helvy's relationship seems mostly sweet, with her helping him out with her overpowered ability to slaughter monsters and thereby earn their keep. There's just something about the entire premise and execution that makes me feel a bit grubby, though.

It feels like it's been a bit since we've had a manga like this: a simple “magic girlfriend” story where a hapless, unlucky loser gets an all-powerful girlfriend that turns his life around. The catch here: our hapless loser is a lonely 14-year-old orphan, and his magical girlfriend is the demon responsible for purging the world of unholy threats thousands of years ago.
There's a definite shotacon angle to this story, what with demon-girl Helvy being so smitten with pure, honest, innocent Theo. It doesn't get too physical (the farthest they go is hold hands in this volume), but Theo does look awfully young for his age. While the “shotacon” angle might turn some people away, I dare to propose that there really isn't enough chemistry between the two. It's cute to see Helvy swoon over Theo when they're being domestic (the two sharing some meat-and-potato stew is cute), but we don't really get enough of that. Most of the volume is just Helvy escorting Theo along on a single quest. We don't even get that much of a reaction outside of Theo's social circle reacting to Helvy—it doesn't even seem like the one girl with the obvious crush on him (Fiore Leotard) is even all that jealous of Theo's hot new wife.
There's room for these fluffy, low-tension romance manga, butMy New Devil Wife is a bit too fluffy and insubstantial. The art is fine but a bit saccharine, the humor is a little one-note, and ultimately, not a lot happens. A manga going off the low-tension route at least needs vibes, but My New Devil Wife doesn't quite have that. Weak recommendation, with major reservations for the shota tags.
