Robotech was made from combining three different Mecha anime series. The three seperatley have nothing in common but through editing and creative dubbing the three stories are combined to give the sense of a continuing story. The three series are: Macross Army or Armies of the Southern Cross Genesis Climber Mospedea Macross Plus IIRC is a sequel to the original Macross and has nothing to do with Robotech. It pretty much picks up where the original Macross ended. |

I'd recommend watching the Macross of Robotech first, follow it up with Robotech The Sentinels and then watch the rest of the series. Trust me it will make more sense.
Macross Plus is basically an insane spin-off of Macross it takes place 30 years in the future on a different planet. I recommend the movie of it rather than the OAVs. |

macross and robotech while basically the same show are still different in mood ans story. So if you are gonna watch robotech stick with the robotech stuff. Now if you are gonna watch the original macross then continue on with the macross, which is the way it is intended to be. The stories will make sense better that way.

I'm pretty sure their license has not expired. They're being just as aggressive in protecting their rights to the series as they ever were. The way I heard it, AnimEigo sub-licensed Macross through HG in order to make the uncut version. They paid HG, HG provided them the footage, and since HG owns the domestic license they're fully within their rights to do that. I can't recall where I heard that from exactly, however, so I could be wrong. |

That's the only one I know of right offhand. You can probably find about a billion more on Google. |

I'm not a fan of the other Robotech series, so I would just like the Macross Saga.

The HG license is for the dub. Thats why the nice, and its so nice, restored version of Macross is sans dub.

Actually, they're license (or so they claim) is for exclusive world wide distribution of the Macross TV series regardless of format. Animeigo licensed Macross TV from HG, not Big West or any of the other involved Japanese companies. |
