Interview
Basically it's just a Viz's public relation guy stating that they're bringing over the best/hottest stuff over (and over again in many different ways). Nothing really new or interesting that I haven't heard before.

However, I thought this comment just prove that Shueisha and Shogakukan title are mostly going to end up in Viz's library.
Quote:
VOur parent companies, Shueisha Inc., Shogakukan Inc., and Shogakukan Production Co., Ltd., give us access to some of the hottest titles available and while we might choose to explore other options in the future, for the present, we will continue to publish compelling titles that come from our parent companies vast library.

Quote:
ED: Shogakukan and Shueisha are two of the largest publishing houses in Japan and they publish some of the most popular manga titles. Having a close relationship with both companies serves us well and allows us to bring the hottest titles to North America shores quickly and in a manner that maintains the artistic integrity of every title we publish. Also, because of the wide reach and established legacy VIZ Media has with the domestic market, we are in a unique position to market and support our titles.

Bah, you can barely call that a interview, but if they are gonna release 5-6 titles for their signature line other than monster and golgo plus minus 2 for phoenix and vagabond, that means there's 3 or 4 licenses that we don't know about yet. Anyone have any guesses?

I guess:
Another Kuroda series?
Real?
Ichi the Killer (not in a million years)?
Gantz?
Another Taiyo Matsumoto manga?

If they are going to be released during the summer we should be knowing them soon enough.

Man, if they license Gantz, that would not be great....that would be awesome!!!. Gantz is one of the most internet buzz worthy title for a non-license series and has an establish anime fanbase. I can see it do well for them. However, maybe it's not the most "sophisticated" title that Viz are looking.

I have a feeling that Viz will bring over another "classic' 70's/80's old school title (maybe Fotns from gutsoon) or maybe another Kurado series.

Another Taiyo Matsumoto? Don't they still haven't finish No. 5?

Sexy Voice is the only thing he ever did for Shogakukan, so no.

Real?

I could see this happening since Inoue already has a fanbase and a reputation in the states.

Ichi the Killer (not in a million years)?

Like you said, not in a million years...

Gantz?

Again, I could see this happening. It isn't at the top of my wish list, but it would be a very nice suprise none the less.

Finish No.5 first! Still, I'd be psyched to see GOGO MONSTER get the oversized treatment a la Sexy Voice.

Titles at the top of my with list are Witches, Naoki Yamamoto's serious stuff (ain't gonna happen, but I can wish), Music of Marie (again, unlikely since it isn't published by Shoga or Shueisha), any Kaiji Kawaguchi manga (could definitally see this happening) and Kamui-den (either series would be MUCH appriciated.)

One day, we shall convince them to publish Go Nagai's manga.

I don't care which one. Just publish em, Viz!

I wonder if they decided to publish 20th Century Boy in the summer time and we can get alternating release of 20thCB and Monster, which mean a Urasawa manga every month. I wonder if Viz is sticking to their policy of releasing 20th CB after Monster.

Either way it would be interesting to see what happen (if anything happen) during this year's AX and otakon.

Well one of the missing signature titles is now confirmed to be Drifting Classroom. 2-3 more to go...

Fantastic! I was wondering when they were going to publish another Kazuo Umezu title.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I thought that Orochi:Blood was good. However, it isn't Umezu's best work.

That particular honor belongs to his two epic sci-fi/horror series, Fourteen and Drifting Classroom.

Fortunantly, they now are gonna publish the latter. Hopefully, this will open the door for more Kazuo Umezu titles in the future.

Hey, Ichigo 100% is actually pretty cool.

And about Gantz...if they license it they'd edit it so bad. let ADV or Dark Horse get it. And maybe Tokyopop even though their 'tokyopop' thing on the side really annoys me.

First off, no, Ichigo 100% is not "cool." It is cliched, poorly written smut that's basically a knock-off of I"s (that has it's fair share of problems also, but at least it's fairly honest for a shonen manga with solid writing). There are much, much better romantic comedies to be read out there that have more purpose that whacking matterial.
And like I said in another thread, Viz wouldn't censor Gantz; they haven't censored manga that targets mature audiences in years. If anything, they'd probobly hype the amount of violence and sex since that's what most people are drawn to.

I have no idea. Perhaps they are waiting until the Godchild portion finishes?
