INTRO
I know there's already Oscars for animated film, and there's the Annies too, but just for fun (thanks for Omen for inspiration on this) lets share our thoughts on awards, for movies and/or series, in all the categories that normal films get for the oscars.
RULES
As per the forum rules, please explain your choices. In the categories of actor/actresses, please substitute these for voice actors/actresses. Japanese or Dub is fine, movies or series are fine. For animation, costume design is different than enviroments, as characters are different from Mechs. When discussing music, please specify between theme music and opening/ending credits. Directing will be considered Art Direction, with perspective, angles, and shading. Make-up will be replaced with inking/color scheme.
CATEGORIES
Best series Overall
Best movie Overall
(all the following categories are for movies and/or series)
Best Sub
Best Dub
Best voice actor
Best voice actress
Best art director
Best costume design
Best editing
Best inking/color
Best opening/ending song
Best music (theme(s))
Best sound effects
Best enviroment design
Best character design
Best weapon/mech design
Best magic/spell/chakra/energy animation
MY VOTES
Best overall series/movie would be FLCL. It reached a pennical that no other anime has ever reached. It has a great re-watch value and is extremely fun to watch.
Best art director: Bleach. I love the dark mood that the shadows give us. Even at its brightest moments (not counting the "cute" stuffed animals) it has a darker, more meaninful tone to it.
Best costume design: TRIGUN. Each of the Gung Ho Guns was unique, and their costumes, along with Vash's, was very detailed. Can you imagine having to draw all those buckles?
Best inking/color: Full Metal Alchemist. You notice the transition from carefree to painful/dark because of the subtle changes in the colors. Pay attention to the red on Ed's coat. It is darker during battles where he's losing, and bright when he's winning.
Best theme music: I'm sorry, but it's a tie. Cowboy Bebob and Trigun. Cowboy Bebop's Jazz matches Spike's fighting style, as Trigun's blues/rock matches the desert life. Either way, they both win becuase the music isn't repetitive. Each episode sounds different, and goes along perfectly with the mood of the episode.
Best Enviroment:This one was hard. Naruto is mostly trees, Trigun is mostly desert, Cowboy Bebop is mostly space and cities, FLCL is mostly cities. Although I love the Hokage mountain in Naruto, and the detail in the villages, I have to go with Full Metal Alchemist. Every battle seems to change in location, and they actually use the enviroment to help with the battles.
Best Character Design: Bleach. From the hair to the faces themselves (more specifically in Soul Society), you can not mistake one character from another. They all have a unique look to them that illustrates their personality.
Best Weapon: TRIGUN. It's full of mercy. Enough said. No, honestly, each of the characters have their own unique gun, most of which have nothing to do with magic. To take something as barbaric as a bullet and turning it into an art form is pure genius that should be recognized. Although, the unique swords of Bleach come in at a close second.
Best Chakra/Magic: Full Metal Alchemist. Who can deny the beauty of a transmutation, the way that each transmutation is unique AND scientific, and the complex designs of the alchemy circles. Not to mention that each enemy uses a different circle and a different style of alchemy. Pure genius.
Wow, that was harder than I thought. Good luck!

By "editing," I assume you mean how all the scenes were spliced together, not the censorship (4Kids/CN) style of editing?

Yes, I'm sorry. I should have specified that. Yes, by editing, I mean scene transitions and such, not the massacre of art by american corporations.
Again, sorry for the confusion.

Best Voice Actress goes to Satsuki YUKINO in her role as Kaname Chidori in Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid. Best performance in episode 9, I think, when Chidori narrowly escapes death and breaks down, sobbing beyond grief, helplessly calling for Sousuke in the rain. I'd say that was the most realistic, natural, heart-wrenching voice acting... of crying.

I agree with your opinion. She's also very good as Yoruichi in Bleach (especially when teasing Ichigo ).

My oscar list would be similar to yours. I don't know FLCL but if you say it's the best i'm gonna watch it.
But the environment in Naruto is not that good. Undetailed compared to the others. The cities and villages are well desinged but the forests don't make a good sight. That's my opinion.
Anyways, good topic and good ideas

I agree with the forests being repetitive and simplistic. That's the problem when trying to think of a perfect enviroment. Bleach is mostly brick wall in Soul Society, Naruto is mostly forest (but I ended up choosing it because of the detailed villages), FMA is mostly country-side or simple cities, Trigun is sand, FLCL is city, etc.
I just need to see more anime.
Thanks for everyone who's posting. Keep 'em commin!

I have to watch more anime too
I've seen all or some of those you mentioned except FLCL.
About Trigun. Eh...I saw almost half of it with Hungarian dub and the first few episodes with Japanese dub. I found it a bit boring. Maybe one day I will watch the whole series.
My main problem (beside not having seen many series) in judging the "oscars" is that I don't really pay attention to the background and the music. There are a few series which I rewatched and noticed the good background music, but usually I watch a series, burn it to dvd and then forget everything about it except the main story line. And being not partial is also difficult. I mean you think highly of your favourites even if they don't deserve it.
Got to take the dog for a walk (he's already yowling)
