I have a question for anyone familiar with the Full Moon wo Sagashite anime. I am already reading the manga, which I love. My rule is if I'm reading the manga I don't watch the anime and vice versa (the exception being Fullmetal Alchemist). However, I've heard that like FMA, the Fullmoon wo Sagashite anime goes off in a different direction than the manga. If so, I might want to check it since I liked the preview DVD I got in Shojo Beat. My question is: is the anime worth checking out? If you could let me know without any spoilers please (for either the manga or the anime. Fullmoon is one of the few series I haven't willingly spoiled yet) I would appreciate it.

I'm a teenage male and I loved Full Moon.. which I assume is targetted at younger children... but i loved it. haha.
The music was good AT THE BEGINNING, but it sort of got overplayed =/... There was a lot of fanservice it seemed, but at the same time.. it felt right for the target audience, so I wasn't annoyed by it. Teh characters are believeable (sp?) and true to themselves. Except for one thing, which i will not say because it might spoil something for you if you decide to watch it. Basically, I would recommend this anime. |

Jamee, while the manga and the anime for Full Moon tell the same basic story, both versions are worth investigating. It has been my experience with Arina Tanemura series that the anime and manga versions are going to have differences, some of them rather substantial in nature.
Also, since this is a series that deals heavily with music, the animated medium is ideal for it since it includes sound with the pictures. There are enough differences between the anime and the manga that you will continue to be surprised by things, I think. So I would definitely recommend checking out the anime in addition to reading the manga. ~Shadrach Anki |

The anime is one of my favourites. However I don't believe that it was targeted for children. The situation that the story revolves around is too tragic in nature. (Unless of course you believe in having your children read Lurleen McDaniel)
I don't remember any fanservice in the anime. If there was any, it wasn't noticable. I didn't find the music too repetitive. The music when it was involved with the storyline didn't bother me at all. It also has one of the memorable endings. Asellus |

The manga was serialized in Ribon, which is a magazine for young girls. By young, we're looking at the 8-12 range or thereabouts. The target audience for the anime was most likely similar. Just because something has a rather serious main theme does not mean it cannot be enjoyed and appreciated by younger audiences. It also does not mean those younger readers/viewers can't be the target audience. With regards to the fanservice...Meroko can be a bit fanservice-y, but really she's not that bad at all. The first episode of the anime is pretty much identical to the manga, but its pretty much a different series beyond that. They cover a few of the same plot points (like the rivalry with Madoka) but they are handled much differently.
I would say the manga has the advantage in pacing as the anime kind of drags a bit in the early portion with a lot of filler-esque episodes. Also, the anime doesn't give much background on some characters that the manga does. But the anime had the advantage in that you can actually hear the songs that Mitsuki sings. I can't compare the plots yet as I haven't finished the manga yet. Both are very good and I recommend both. |

I'm glad that you like the anime, HitokiriShadow! It's nice to know that since Right Stuf is "processing"  my order as of right now! I have read the manga, so I'm looking forward to watching the anime. I hope that the anime does give a bit of background for the various characters, especially the "dead" ones, since a lot of them are connected to Mitsuki in one way or another. But, even if the anime doesn't, I'll have the manga to fill in the blanks.

the Anime is literally art.
The music helps to push the story along but this is an anime that will spoiler[ literally not only tug your heart strings but yank them from your body. ] the emotion this anime packs is astounding. |

I just got vol. 6 of the manga (haven't read it yet) but I have to say, the manga has really gotten to me (tissue time!) then the anime should be at least half a box of tissue!

But it would be much appreciated if if those of us who haven't gotten it yet weren't being told that. Emotional impact tends to work better when you aren't expecting it.

I remember not knowing WHAT shows to watch, checking out animenfo.com's top rated list and Full Moon was number 1. I really should watch this anime some time.
How is the dub on the english version? Good? Bearable? |

Based on the sampler DVD that came with an issue of Shojo Beat, the dub is tolerable. It's not particularly good, but it's decent.
THe first volume of the DVD comes out later this month although it has already shipped from some online vendors. |
