Yeah make fun of me all you want I dont care. I have never had my heart pulled out and twisted up like this anime did. Im not the kind to get all weepy eyed and emotional but this series just pushed all the right buttons. Kanon I think is one of the most perfect and beautiful animes that I have ever seen. It had an excellent story, excellent characters, excellent mood music, and they even got the ending perfect. I cant think of anything that could be changed to make this any better. Kanon is perfect as is. So make your comments and make fun of me. I dont care. I dont think I have ever enjoyed an anime title as much as I have enjoyed this one. |

I don't know about perfect....I liked the show but hated the ending. It went on one episode too long. That's really my only beef with it. It's almost like they ended it then someone told the producers they had to make one more episode.

First off, I believe it's based off a dating sim game or something. Pieces of it are kinda hit or miss though. The characters are likeable for the most part, even though the plot is a little iffy. (The plotline is basically this guy comes back to live in the town he used to live in as a child, where is aunt and cousin live, but now he has amnesia and can't remember anything from that time in his life. One by one he meets these girls that used to know him back then and he can piece together his childhood memories.) There are times when I was like "puh-lease let this get better." But it's the ending that really clinches it for most people. The storyline tends to drag until the last...4 or 5 episodes. Overall, it's very good...but you need to get to the end to appreciate that. IMHO, you could stop watching it at episode 12 and still be perfectly happy. |

Ehh.... it's sorta like that... the first game on the PC is a little ecchi, but there are all sorts of sim games out there... don't know if I'd quite call it a date sim (though it's the only kind of sim that people seem to be able to relate to in the U.S. to be able to understand this kind of game - conicidentally, I do have it and have played it)
The hardest thing to transition to anime are things based off of games with multiple endings as opposed to manga. The ones doing the anime have to try to keep the anime from seeming shallow and yet still stay faithful to the game (which is sometimes shallow anyway) In addition to that, they effectively have to pick a storyline from the game and go with it. In this case, to do a 13 episode series, it made the effort to combine all the storyline elements and then picked one of the endings. It worked fairly well, considering most other games to anime that have been done. The problem is, without episode 13, there is no sense of closure at all. There are too many things left hanging at that point. To top it off, it would have not been following the game for any of the endings you can get in it... Tho IMHO, the artwork for the game was much better than the anime. ^_^ |

Yuuiji has had something painful and traumatic happen in his life that has caused him to block off his memories from 7 years ago. Yuuiji moves back to the town he was in 7 years ago and stays with his very cool Aunt Akiko and cute cousin Nayuki. As he goes back to school Yuuiji meets different people from his life 7 years ago, interacts with them and starts to regain some of his memories. As he does so he helps the people put their lives back together, helps some of them attain closure, and helps his old friends of 7 years ago through some of the emotional humps they were stuck at. As Yuuiji gains his memories we find out what happened 7 years ago that was painful enough for Yuji to block out his memories. All of the parts of the story come together toward the end for one of the most touching scenes I have ever seen in TV, film, or anime. The stories are well written and the voice acting is superb. I also think the music does an excellent job of setting the mood for the scenes. I plan to look for an OST. My favorite characters were Ayu and then Matoko |

I got closure from the 12th episode. You don't need to have things spelled out. spoiler[He could have just as well gone home without actually dating any of the girls. I just think waking the girl up out of the coma was very lame and unnecessary. It was much more moving when she was dead and it would have been better IMHO if she stayed dead.] I don't really get why people feel this need to always have closed endings to feel satisfied. Sometimes I like to think about what the characters might have done after the show...if they leave it open, it lets you use your imagination and actually write your own ending. That makes it unique to everyone who watches it. |

I can hear what you are saying about that, but again, it would have been an insult to the makers of the game, considering they did have the endings. There are things I'd like to have seen ended differently myself. For example the ending for Pretear. spoiler[It would have been the prefect tragic ending if Himeno hadn't woken up and stayed dead. It would have brought a new level of cool to the magical girl genre and finished the series nicely had they done so.] The fact is, even if you didn't like the ending, there were still parts necessary to finish out the series in ep 13. If you want to use your imagination on how it should end, you can always write a fanfic, or play the game and get one of the different endings if you would prefer. Some people want closure, some don't care. Maybe you didn't like the choices made, but that was the choice of the writer of the story. The series is still fairly unique though, and certainly has a stronger feel on emotions than most other anime (IMO) when dealing with one guy and multiple girls. |

See...I don't see that as being an insult to the makers of the game. You would think that the makers would have wanted to leave it open ended to get people to buy the game and figure it out for themselves. (woo! Marketing!)
I don't know that it was necessary to do the last episode either. I've talked to a bunch of people that have watched it and they didn't like the 13th episode either. (As for the fanfic thing, I find fanfics to be completely lame....I used to read them...then I realized how many bad writers there are out there and gave up on the whole genre.)
Nah...the series was unique up until that 13th episode. That's when the went soap opera on it. spoiler[when in doubt, wake up the girl in the coma! or wait...if you don't see a body, they aren't really dead! ] |

alot of people dont like the ending becouse they gave it the games hardest ending ie Yuichi going for spoiler[Ayu]
when alot of fans myself included feel he should have gotten spoiler[ Nayuki ]. Course the whole arc with Shiori my favorite character in the show btw had me on the verge of tears at times. Now if they would make Air into a anime then I would be a very happy man. till then Kanon is the best of the "Sad Girls and Snow" genre and I wll continue to purchase the r2 dvds (only have the first 3 of 7 arrr) |

Not that I can't blame you there... I hestitated in making a horrendus joke (straying from the canon of...) when I first was posting that. That's the same reason I've given up myself. I will occasionally read one, but it's pretty rare. But hey, if one wants to make up their own ending... as so many others do, that's the route that's taken over, and over and over....

Although in all fairness, I meant that the series is unique in aspects of anime. Even with the ending, how often have you seen it done in anime itself? And the series as a whole for that matter? |

spoiler[ How would he have known she was in a coma? At first he didn't even recognize her. Then they ate stolen Taiykishi(sp?), hung out together, and she even spent the night at his aunts house, he even thought he saw her die. And then the seen where she becomes an angel, and the disappearing headband when she was around...the coma part was unexpected. Its easy now in hindsight to say "yeah I saw that coming or that wasnt important to the story", but for me it was excellent to find out she was in a coma instead of dead. He got to be with his childhood sweetheart and I thought she was the cutest character. I did feel sorry for Nauyki though. She had her feelings walked on a bit in the series. She was a real sweetheart and was ignored most of the series. I didn't start to get real emotional and teary eyed til the Matoko episode when you knew she was "dying", OK her human body was dying and she was going back to being a spirit. The fact that she remembered him and was willing to go though that to be near him even if it was for a short while was very touching. And toward the end when he would read the manga to her, and feed her, and sleep next to her because she wanted him to be close I was losing it. The scene when he took her to the meadow where she returned to the spirits was just so emotional and well done. ] |
