and anime related merchandise?
I estimate around at least $3000 in the last few years. This is just off the top of my head. I'll try to do a more accurate number later tonight or tomorrow. I have around 150 titles (a combination of series and movies) and various figurines, as well as clothing and posters/wall banners. Also several issues of Newtype. How about the rest of you? PS-I apologize if this thread's been done before. I tried a search and came up with nothing. |

It has been about a year since this thread has popped up. It would take me some time to separate my anime orders from my non anime orders from sites like CD Japan and Amazon, but a quick math run on Rightstuf says that I spent $4735.95 on their site for the year 2006. This is about average for me but less than what I spent at TRSI in 2005 from memory. I did buy more hardware in 2006 (a $4000 tv, a really nice center channel, a Monster UPS, a Monster Power Center, Harmony 880, and an OPPO) compared to 2005. On the older thread I have a breakdown for my online purchases for the last several years. Almost all of my DVDs are pre-ordered or on sale at 35%-80% off, so the actual MSRP value of DVDs bought is almost double what I paid for. I have an old capture of my collection (back when I only had 788 DVDs) here animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11845&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=390
Soon after this went up I bought 100 DVDs for $400 during the Geneon sale! I don't want to even think about how much I spend on MG kits, Gundam Fix, books, and CDs. Going back to abother thread, it's nice to be an adult anime fan. |

Egad! I try not to think about this topic too much. But...as a rough estimate, it would be in $60,000-$70,000 range.
My wife and I have been seriously into anime since about mid 2000. We have a little over 2100 DVDs and 500+ mangas. There is also the menagerie of resin and PVC figures...(just got Mikuru from SHnY today). Now, while that sounds (and honestly is) excessive, we both have good jobs and are "established" (read older). As I said in another post, anime is our only mutual hobby. That lack of a "veto" voice has added to the tally. Last edited by akitainu on Fri Jan 05, 2007 3:30 am; edited 2 times in total |

Well, where should I start. I probably spend a good 300 dollars per month on manga alone, and then when there's big sales on anime, probably around 1000 dollars a year. But manga is the biggest wallet killer for me. I would estimate that I've probably spent about 8000 dollars in my manga reading career.

On actual anime, none, because so far I've gotten all my anime as gifts. I'm going to a convention this weekend, however, so that should change drastically. And then when I start working....
I've spent nearly $200 on manga in the last few months, though ;;; |

Let's see... I buy DVDs on sale or as preorders pretty much exclusively, so lets lowball estimate at $12 per DVD on average, maybe $15 per manga (I started in the bad old $26 per volume days), and $20 per figure and misc other toys... ball-park figure of about $37,315. That's really a depressing number when I stop to think about it.
EDIT: Oh, I should add another $1000 for stuff bought in the VHS days too. And I'm still not counting video games... |

I have over 400 anime DVDs, I don't even want to think about the riches I could have piling up in my bank account! However, if it's a choice between having more money and being bored or spending my extra cash and being entertained, I'd still choose the anime.

Probably a few thousand. I don't even want to think about what the exact number might be, but I know I've spent close to a $100-$150 a month for most of 2006. (New Year's Resolution #2: Spend less money.)
It's the PVC's and Limited Editions that are killing me. So expensive but so nice looking. Then there are the art books and wall scrolls. I'm kind of lucky to be moving out of my home for further college years, now I can have more room for anime stuff! |

If I add up the MSRP of everything anime related that I've bought in the past 4 years since I started seriously collecting, it adds up to a total of approximately $4,500. Again that's MSRP, meaning this doesn't include things like shipping, tax, discounts, or sales. Taking those things into consideration I've probably spent about $3,500 because, more often than not, I buy things with a discount, used or when they're on sale.
The scary thing is that this also doesn't include what I've spent on video games, CDs, concerts and other books and DVDs. |

This is not something I really want to sit down and figure out... I'd guestimate something like 1,000 to 2,000 a year on DVDs alone.
I can say that my paycheck, for the most part, gets divided up between savings and my various geeky collections pretty evenly- that's anime and related merch, videogames, pinky:st dolls, etc. I intend to be cutting back for awhile, tho'- I did a count today, and I'm currently at 91 DVDs unwatched (and mostly unopened), on top of the couple dozen on backorder at Rightstuf. I have even more unplayed videogames (This is what I get for having 12 systems I intend to focus on completing a few series (both anime and videogame-wise), while whittling down some of these untouched media numbers a bit. Shouldn't be too hard- my paycheck drops drastically right after the holidays anyway, so I won't have as much spending money to begin with. |

Prior to 2005 I mainly rented anime since I rarely watch any single volume more than once. Then when I read about the thinning margins and general downturn I started buying some titles. I haven't spent more than a few thousand but I already have lots of volumes I'll probably never watch again.

According to my collection, I have 260 different titles....and so I'll say at least 5 grand, god damn.....when I think about it like that, that a lot of money. I think that I understand what my girlfriend has been saying when she says I spent too much money on anime. And I still have a lot of anime on my shelf that I haven't even seen yet.

I try really, really hard not to think about this. Whatever the amount is, it's probably too much, and I get some of my DVDs for free.
