What makes the fourth volume of Godchild that just cam put have a parental advisory sticker? From the past I know that these are not always indictive of what's inside since sometimes there is worse content on previous or subsequent volumes of a manga, and yet only one volume in the series happens to get a sticker for one reason or another. The cover is kind of creepy, and I don't like it. So spoilers are welcome of course.

Also, I have a question regarding a character mention in Wikipedia in the Godchild manga page. It said there is a clown named Cassian in the first volume. For some reason I cannot remember said character, and I believe they are confusing him with another one based on the description. Was just wondering.

If my memory serves me correct, this volume should collect where it ended off in Shojo Beat, which I heard was a couple of chapters before some Cain x Riff stuff, but I don't know for sure.

There's only one parental advisory sticker for the volumes that are out right now? Maybe I should pick this up the next time I'm at Book Off and I might be able to find out what is in the content to get it the sticker. I've been kind of staying away from Kaori Yuki's works since Angel Sanctuary, since it opened a whole new world and gave new meaning to the word, "shojo". Bad language a possible factor by chance?

I know the all Cain Saga volumes out so far have PA stickers too and since Goldchild is the continuation of Cain Saga, I really don't see the huge problem. To me, it seems that because they are running in the Shojo Beat line, being aimed at younger girls, the violence in the books may be unsuitable for the younger girls. How many girly books to do you know are about murder and deceit and poison and the like? Plus as said before, the whole CainxRiff thing could be part of it. But I could be completely wrong.

I went to pick this up at Borders last night and they didn't put it out yet. I was very frustrated.

Cain and Riff stuff?! Hmmmm. I've been wondering about those two ever since the end of the Black Sheep story in Godchild 1. That coy, side long look Cain tosses over his shoulder while saying "You're the only one in this world who can touch my scars... Riff."

I thought all of the Godchild volumes had PA stickers on them. I haven't been collecting them myself, but I thought I saw them with them in the store. I guess I was wrong.

While Shojo Beat doesn't have any Mature rated titles yet, their targe age group is varied and some titles do contain content warnings. Godchild and Nana are certainly aimed at older audiences and volume 5 of Nana has a mature content warning on it. They don't seem to have a problem with mild swearing, nipple-less nudity (they edited nipples in the magazine for Nana but kept them in the graphic novel), or implicit sex and sexual dialogue. The most recent storyline in Absolute Boyfriend suggestst that the heroine was drugged and date-raped (I"m sure she actually wasn't, but its made to look like she was). Shojo Beat seems to be aimed at an older age demographic than Shonen Jump.

To answer you're question, other shojo titles that contain murder and violence (and sometimes graphic nudity or at least very steamy scenes) include: Fushigi Yuugi, Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden, Ceres: Celestial Legend, Red River, and (of course) Angel Sanctuary. I'm not sure if X is a shojo title (I think it is), but if so, you can add that to the list. The other day I was reading scanlations of a shojo horror anthology that included several with the 'heroines' dead at the end, one with a nice little picture of her dead body with her heart ripped out.

I didn't mean Shojo manga is general. I just meant those run on the Shojo Beat line. Godchild and Nana are the first to have PA stickers on them.

Actually, Cain Saga would be the first. It had the PA sticker and was shrinkwrapped from the first volume, Nana was second and Godchild was third (or they tied for second, but I'm pretty sure Nana 5 was on shelves before Godchild 4)

I flipped through volume 3 at the store today and didn't recognize anything in it (I was kind of iffy on some of the beginning stuff, but I'm almost postive the latter portion was never in SB), so I think volume 3 began covering the stuff that wasn't in SB.

ah yes. you are correct. i knew it was one or the other and i got them mixed up. but i fail to see why some of this newesr stuff is shrinkwrapped when there has been much worse in the shojo line in previous years.

Eh, I figured the warnings and wrapping was for the (slight spoliers follow)spoiler[incest/suggested rape material in the vampire storyline], not necessarily the cain/riff stuff.

Awww... Iv been collecting the Godchild series, I have the first three. Now that the fourth is out, Im a bit excited and scared at the same time, since a) I dont realllly want a book with a "parental advisory" sticker on it, just in case someone I know (like... my parents) got the wrong idea about what Im reading, and b) I dont really like boyxboy stuff x_x
But Im excited since I adore vampires, and someone said something about a vampire sequence? o_o
Oh, dilemas Anime cry

The Shojo Beat line is under slightly different standards than the Shojo line. Even so, several of the Shojo titles have gotten the same treatment. They started doing it to Red River around volume 12 even though there was nothing any worse there than in previous volumes. Some steamy scenes but nothing explicit. Volume 16 finally showed a nipple. The final volume of Hot Gimmick contained explicit nudity and sex so it got an Explicit Content label and was shrinkwrapped. Sensual Phrase was shrinkwrapped from the beginning. However, I'm kind of suprised that Angel Sanctuary has neve gotten a Mature Content label.

In addition, sometimes things just change over time. Red River got the label after it had been running for a long time. Likewise, what does and doesn't get edited seems to change over time. In 2005, Viz seemed to start editing a lot more but they seem to have eased up as of late.

All that aside, Viz just can't make up its mind and is very inconsistant to the point that some edits make no sense due to the same content earlier in the series being uncut.
