I would think any of the vampire anime series like: Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, or Vampire Princess Miyu would be good. Might check out Pet Shop of Horrors, Wicked City, or Blood the Last Vampire too.
However, I think that Hamtaro is a pretty scary anime, myself. |

horror?
Well if you mean horror, I'd have to say what Lianncoop said, as well as Hundred Stories *only watched an ep, but it's pretty good*, and Boogiepop Phantom. I can't think of anything else at the moment. |

The Vampire Princess Miyu OVAs are some all-time favourites of mine, and I wholeheartedly recommend them (haven't seen the TV series though, so I can't speak much for it at the moment). Also as littlegreenwolf said, Boogiepop Phantom is another excellent one (again, an all-time favourite of mine).

Stay away from Kimera! It was horrible. I was happy to see it show up on the 'worst anime' list. I can't believe I watched it!!! Blah!!!

My favorite horror is BOOGIEPOP PHANTOM, its an excellent horror anime.
Hamtaro is the anime from HELL, it will give you nightmares of cute little hamsters with very annoying voices trying to kill you by singing their theme song from HELL!!! |

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the Hamtaro-bashing... It's like going onto an animation board and saying "Gah, I hate Dora the Explorer! It SO doesn't promote the vision of Walt Disney when he started making animation. (sigh) It needs more giant robots..." You're obviously not a part of the target audience for Hamtaro, so why bother bashing it?

Meh, it's a "classic" but I never really enjoyed it. The ones mentioned so far are by far better. |

Vampire Hunter D, Boogiepop Phantom
Boogiepop Phantom, Vampire Hunter D. Hellsing was more action fun than horror in my opinion. Nothing particularly scary about it. |

Boggiepop Phamton and Vampire Hunter D only 2 Horror animes I have seen and would recommed, though Boggiepop is very confusing in its plot.
On another note Hellsing seemed to be along the Horror lines and quite violent one at that? |

Well, I will add a vote to get Vampire Princess Miyu OAVs, as IMHO, they are the better horror title in terms of music, plot and very well set MOOD/environment for a horror title. The TV series is a lot lighter and changes the characters significantly. That said, the ending of the TV series and the revelations thereof will remain with you for a long while (unrelated at all to the OAVs). Get it if you don't mind viewing "monster of the week" type episodes for one heck of an ending...
I have yet to see the new Vampire Hunter D, but the old one wasn't too bad. I have Boogie Pop, but haven't had time to see it, as I am consumed with newer releases. For a good horror tale (non-anime) try the Criterion release of Kwaidan... |
