Well I've just read Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-machine interface and I have to admit I am confused.

Am I right in thinking that spoiler[Motoko Aramaki is a part of the Motoko Kusanagi-puppeteer entity, which is why she was called Motoko (11) at the end. On a similar note I assume Millennium was also a part of the larger Motoko entity as they called her Millennium (20).

Does the real Motoko from the first manga now exist completely within cyberspace with her old body stored on the space station and lots of autonomous copies of herself running about who don't actually know they are part of her?

Or is Motoko Aramaki really Motoko Kusanagi and if so who were the entities in cyberspace at the end who talked about fusion? If she was why didn't she know who Motoko Kusanagi was?]

Can anyone who has read it shed any light on it?

I have to admit I was really confused when I read this one as well. It would seem that spoiler[Motoko Aramaki was a separate entity from Motoko Kusanagi, though it seemed like their programs met up with each other towards the very end. What I also couldn't grasp was what Motoko Aramaki was trying to accomplish and on top of that her motives for that. From what I could tell, she several "shells" placed in different sections of the cities and such, so she could move from one place to another to accomplish certian goals.] From my understanding this story was more about the art.

Yeah, the character was shown in the nude a lot, probably to appeal to the readers other than the complex and confusing storyline. All this talk about viruses, creating programs, and even the ending was not easily understandable.

When Ghost in the Shell 2 : Man/Machine Interface was released, most of the negative reviews centrered around the fact that the plot was ridiculously complicated and nigh impossible to follow, even by Masamune's standards. It really spreads it's self out, extending its metaphorical tentacles deep into the philosophy of human consciousness and nature.

I haven't got the 1.5 issue, but I heard that it is chapters from 2 that were edited out. What bearing do they have on the story?
