Macross Zero Episode 3 was just released in Japan two days ago. Fansubs of the episode should be available sometime this week. In the meantime, here are some screenshots:

Asuka Under Attack

Two Words: Armored VF-0S

More scenes from Episode 3

Another shot of the Armored VF-0

Earth Girl Arjuna even makes a cameo appearance here.

Overall, it has more action and suspense than the last episode. I can't wait for the fansubs to come out.

SPOILER ALERT!
spoiler[
For those who just tuned in, Macross Zero takes place one year before the Zentraedi invade Earth. During this time, a war erupted between the U.N. and other countries that disagreed with forming an alliance with the U.N. following the alien ship crash of 1999. With both sides suffering major casualties over the years, the war intensifies when the U.N. and anti-U.N. factions develop their own variable fighters for combat.

In this story, U.N. pilot Shin Kudou and his navigator Edgar La Salle are lost at sea after their F-14 is shot down by the anti-U.N.'s SV-51 variable fighter piloted by female ace Nora Polyansky. Shin wakes up on Mayan - a remote island inhabited by women, children and old men. On the island, he meets a young priestess names Sara Nome and her little sister Mao. While his wounds heal, he takes time to adjust to the island's primitive culture, which has no electricity or running water.

Meanwhile, aboard the U.N. carrier Asuka II, scientists have discovered a strange anomaly buried underwater and have codenamed it "AFOS." It is believed that AFOS is the missing key to all of civilization on Earth. However, they need more answers to the questions generated by the discovery of AFOS, and their only lead is Mayan.

In episode 3, Shin learns more about Sara and Mao. Then, all of a sudden, the anti-U.N. forces attack the Asuka II fleet, hoping to acquire AFOS for their own purposes. While Roy Focker - piloting an armored VF-0S - once again squares off against his mentor D.D. Ivanov, Shin and Edgar must fend off Nora and protect another discovered piece of AFOS from the anti-U.N.]

Hot damn, that looks sweet!

Hopefully Bandai will bring it over hear soon (within a year, maybe?), or else it is off to buying the HK bootlegs.

Yay! Roy Fokker lives! I know that was a little loud or obnoxious (I'll leave my fan boy-ism at the door) but, I'm a huge Macross/Robotech fan.

Can't wait to see it. Wink

Their lawyers are strong indeed. They have much in the way. Lawyer-nins have as of yet, been unable to stop them.

Actually, the pattern is usually that a series must finish in Japan before it comes out here. Considering they have 2 volumes to go, I don't see it as unlikely at all

Rumor has it Pioneer(Geneon) has licensed it, but they will not confirm

There is a reason we are talking about lawyers. There is a legal fight for the rights to Macross outside of Japan. Harmony Gold got a really strong contract to all Macross properties outside of Japan in 1985. The Japanese dispute it, as it gives a huge amount money to HG, and the legal battle has made it impossible to clearly establish rights to other Macross properties. This needs to be settled before anyone can sell in outside of Japan. I doubt Geneon has it, they wouldn't pay for something they couldn't show.

I finished watching episode 3 yesterday, and I'm amazed by the overall quality. The animation gets better, the action gets more intense and the suspense continues to build up.

Now to wait for episode 4...
