As far as I know, all of the simulcast short anime programs are on Crunchyroll. At three to five minutes each, it shouldn't be that much of a time investment to simply watch them your self. I don't think they really need to be in the Preview Guide.

A review of some of the better ones at the end of the season would be nice. Just to get a different view of the series and provoke some discussion.

If you're hunkering for a version of Free! that trades the swimming in for parkour, but has all the flavor and excitement of Meganebu! instead, this will be right up your alley.

I'll be the one to defend Meganebu here, even THAT wasn't as humorless as this show. Poor Meganebu, I may be the only one who loves you, but I have a lot of love to make up for it.

Active Raid - .5/5
I can't remember the last time I stopped watching something halfway through. Absolutely nothing about this show compelled me to watch it any further; the music was generic, the writing was painfully obtuse, the art was forgettable, and the characters lacked character.

The other shows I'm looking forward to today are Assassination Classroom (which is a known quantity) and Erased (which could swing either way).

So far the only truly great anime to come out this year is Gundam Thunderbolt.

Active Raid: 3.5 / 5

Nothing spectacular, but entertaining enough to keep me watching.

Evidently, the producers will immediately lose everyone expecting a more high-brow production. That said, I honestly had plenty of fun with this and my expectations were never high in the first place.

It's definitely not trying to be serious at all. No, it's not Maria the Virgin Witch and it's not even Code Geass either. But so what?

A fair number of the jokes were amusing enough to work for me. They alternated between admittedly basic subject matter and mildly surprising references (both internal and otherwise). I also felt the character archetypes have the potential for developing more chemistry in their dynamic as time goes on. I liked how the battle scenes were used as part of the punch line to the humor.

I will say the music was a lot better than the animation quality though.

I just watched episode one of Active Raid, and I think it was crappy, but I am actually digging the stupidity, the out of place music score and weird fanservice.

I am almost shocked that Nick Creamer liked it that much. I especially disagree with his opinion that the visuals are very solid. The female designs are kind of nice, but the rest of the visuals are uninspiring and underwhelming.

Active Raid was okay I guess. A few interesting ways it could go. It's almost simultaneously generic and unique? But the generic aspects are really hampering my enjoyment. There wasn't much at stake, either, but maybe we weren't supposed to feel like there was. I didn't feel much toward any of the characters or the setting. Though many shows I've watched recently go the "newbie actually understands more than the current staff!" route, so it was somewhat refreshing to see the lead not have a grasp of the situation (even though she thinks she does).

It's good enough that I'll give it a few more episodes when we have an actual plot in sight.

There was barely any real fanservice. Which I'd count as a positive.

It's a silly show, albeit fairly self-aware at that, so obviously one has to roll along with everything and not nitpick every corner cut or else you'll lose your mind. Mind you, I honestly didn't find anything out of place about the score, since it was upbeat and fitting for the chaotic yet heroic nature of the whole ordeal.

I do expect the pace of the narrative to calm down after a while, maybe by episode two or three to make a wild guess, but it's never going to be a show aiming for a great, sophisticated plot. If the stakes do get higher, it'll probably only be moderately so by anime standards.

I would tend to say that the framing and cinematography were better than the visuals as such, which did come across as lacking some budget muscle. This isn't a veteran studio known for having great animators or anything, so I am not too concerned.

I didn't think I'd like Active Raid, but evidently the fan service is aimed at women, and what's not to like about that?

It actually reminded me a little of Tiger and Bunny, because I wasn't expecting the silly fight and chemistry between the two main guys, so I'll give the next couple eps a try too.

Wow, I have watched Phantom World yesterday and so far, it's pretty much the worst thing that's airing so far and just because KyoAni made it, doesn't make it any better and it would be just as bad if another studio made it.

KyoAni has always been a bland studio who can make pretty animation but undesirable and blasé stories and characters and this is pretty much going to be one of them when the season ends.

Active Raid
, however, looks like fun. While not too spectacular, it was a light-hearted but thrilling action mecha show.

ERASED: 3,5 / 5. Finally something I want to follow! It's basic mistery stuff but it's well directed (good atmosphere, pacing and voice choices, I like the mc and his mother's voice, they sound much more natural than your average anime voice), the episode flows quick, and while it has its awkward or weird parts (that "power" seems more like a needlessly complicated excuse thrown out of nowhere to justify this situation, but who knows) it's interesting so far. I also like that it's going to be an active mistery instead of pure pasiveness like Perfect Insider. Not much else to say, so far what happened it's basic, but I'm thrilled enough.

Active Raid - meh. It's a very generic premise nothing really happened to grab my attention so far. It seems like the biggest novelty so far is the idea of the team being a group of quirky working class joe's. My friend put it best when he said that it's essentially a modern day Patlabor. It certainly has a lot of the same hallmarks. Unfortunately I'm not entirely sure if it wants to commit to that tone yet. Small things like the anti-establishment goons being part of a larger and the notebook thief, combined with how the mc is evaluating the unit imply there might be a deeper plot going on. But then the overall tone during the action parts imply something more along the lines of the Patlabor tv series. This one definately needs a couple more episodes to develop. Hopefully it doesnt end up suffering red vs blue syndrome of consistantly almost having a plot only for things to stop entirely for needless comedy

Erased seems like the best show that's premiered so far. Seems better than any of last years' mysteries. spoiler[Things seem pretty bad for Satoru, what with his mom's blood on his hands and her body in his apartment, and the police about to catch him before the big time jump. Considering Japan's legal system, even though he is innocent, he's probably screwed. Read this article if you want to know what I mean. That's also why Yuuki was put on death row though he was likely falsely accused.]

Active Raid: Pretty standard stuff, but I had fun with it. It seems to be taking a rather light-hearted approach to the overall setting, it was fast paced and I liked the suit designs. I'll keep watching for a couple of episodes.

Girls Beyond the Wasteland: I'm a bit polarized on this one. The designs are pretty bland and the animation seems... off, somehow. I noticed a lot of missing frames when some characters turned their heads, for instance. The overall quality wasn't good. The story is also standard, but the references to Urobuchi were fun, at least, and it's going to delve into a subject matter I'm a bit interested in (VN creation), so yeah, I'll give it a few episodes as well.

Yeah, I liked that as well. Casting a screen/stage actor with no prior anime experience as the protagonist was an unusual choice, but his tone sounded a lot more believable than most other supposed loner MCs I've heard in anime. The mother's Hokkaido dialect was also a nice touch.
