All righty, then.

Well, I'd heard that the Back Street Girls anime had actually done pretty well in Japan, so I guess this shouldn't have come as a surprise. But still.

Are you acually serious?
That slideshow was considered good in japan?!
I've heard japanese people were weird but that is going above and beyond.
.......
Im looking forwards to watching the live action version.

Why? Just because the animation was crap doesn't mean the entire show is worthless. I watched it, and sure it's not incredible, but it made me laugh. The jokes are pretty niche I guess though (marrying yakuza/tough guy stereotypes with non-fluffy underground idol stuff) so I can see why it didn't resonate with a lot of non-Japanese viewers.

For ones animation to be crap, one actually needs to have animation.

But yes, the anime wasnt entirely worthless. It did have color and VO..... thats about it.
Which is why im looking forwards to the Live action adaptation, because it will be one of the few examples where it will be overwhelmingly better than its anime counter-part (no matter how good it may, or may not be).

Starting with a long reference to Pinky Violence films doesn't fill me with confidence - not least because the actual footage looks much tamer (& worse) than those films were.

I'm guessing it was more popular for the comedy than for the animation.
