Jasmine Gyuh's comedy manga ended in September, inspired TV anime in July

Toei revealed on Monday that it is producing a live-action film adaptation of Jasmine Gyuh's Back Street Girls comedy manga. The film is titled Back Street Girls: Gokudols- (Back Street Girls -Yakuza Idols-). Keinosuke Hara is directing the film, which will open in Japan on February 8.

The film will star Jin Shirasu, Reiya Masaki, Masato Hanazawa, Natsumi Okamoto, Ruka Matsuda, Akane Sakanoue, Tetsuya Sugaya, Nana Asakawa, Hitoshi Ozawa, Dōri Sakurada, Ren Osugi, and Kouichi Iwaki.

Kodansha Comics began publishing the manga digitally in English on August 14, and it describes the series:

Tough gangland retribution takes a disturbingly bright, shiny turn in this insanely guilty pleasure about 3 yakuzas who, as repayment for their failures, must undergo major surgery and become … a hot female idol trio! So what happens when they become the next big pop sensation!?

The manga launched in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in March 2015, and ended on September 15. Kodansha published the manga's 11th compiled volume on June 6. The manga has more than 450,000 copies in print.

The manga inspired a television anime adaptation that premiered in Japan on July 3.
