February…that’s not bad assuming the American date isn’t too far behind.

Considering how divisive the third (final) arc of the Rebellion movie was, I hope the Walpurgisnacht: Rising movie is able to rise above it. I too, have been hoping for a long time for this new movie to properly conclude the Rebellion movie.
It is nice to see that they have brought everyone back to make this movie. It is a beautiful trailer. |

Uncontrollably hype! To be honest though, I haven't looked at anything Madoka related since Rebellion, so I'm hoping this doesn't end up being a KH type situation where I'll have needed to know all the mobile game lore in order to know what's going on LOL

Probably not. The Magia Record story is pretty disconnected from the original series story, and the current Magia Exedra mobile game doesn't even have its own story as of yet. The two new girls shown on the new poster here are brand new. |

"Rebellion" currently shares my personal mental wastebasket with "The Last Jedi," "Alien 3," J.J. Abrams's "Star Trek," and any number of franchise sequels I flat-out reject. The only way Urobuchi could retrieve it would be to write something so incredible that it redeems Rebellion and surpasses the ending of the original. I just don't think he can do it. Who could?

I feel strongly that everything the Madoka franchise has done since the original series has only served to damage its legacy. I'm not excited for this at all. I wish it wasn't happening.

So... Winter 2024 -> Winter 2025 -> Winter 2026 (currently)
Third time's a charm, right? |

Thanks for bringing that up. I had totally forgotten about that. A big dose of reality there. Hopefully a third time is a charm. Otherwise ANN will need to do an article on what is going wrong. It is anime news after all, and enquiring minds want to know. |

What I'm about to say is completely unnecessary to understand the film or the characters, but the two new girls, while technically new, are hiiiiiighly suspected to be magical girl forms of spoiler[past witches Quitterie (from the PSP game) and Paola (from the silly summer drama CD).] Think of them as cameos. Going back to those stories would literally tell you next to nothing about the new girls, so no need to bother. Also, technically this is not Winter 2026 release. It's Spring 2026 release. So not a whole extra year delay, but just a few months. |
