Reader of the original manga here. I dread to even think about the reaction should it gets published in the west. A good number of the "jokes" are borderline disturbing and definitely wouldn't fly today.

I'm enjoying the remake so far. Studio Kai is doing a great job capturing the vibe of a series with the aesthetic and humor of a children's anime but with truly gruesome and scary supernatural horror...with plenty of wholesomeness mixed in.
OP and Ed are great. Love Nube's vibe with his class. If only he knew how to properly ask out women!

I almost never watch weekly anime anymore, but I will make an exception here. I also love the pre-digital anime era (in fact, I prefer it) so I hope this could satiate me.

Oh, but he is already engaged to a teenage yuki onna. Dunno if we will see her in this remake.

We will. She appears everywhere: in the key visual, trailers, and characters profile.

Ugh, I've already seen some weirdos in the episode threads on MAL bemoaning this adaptation's lack of the original's "fanservice."

That was really funny when Miki pranked all the classmates during that night.
Thankfully Nube was able to save the day like he normally does.

Wanted to watch this when it was done but REMOW has pulled the typical It's only available for 1-week! bullshit.

Has REMOW done this one week only thing before? Uma Musume Cindererlla Gray had a normal release and is still on the channel.
As for the show I’ve been impressed with the balance between the hard hitting violence, the creepy factor and classic family adventure. I remember a little bit of the Latin American dub and the older anime wasn’t this intense. I do recall the movies having a similar vibe to this remake though.

They do it with a majority of their shows On YouTube. Hell Teacher, Toughen Anki and WataNare are being removed after about a week from episode 1 or 2. Last season it was Your Forma and before that Tonbo and Twilight Hotel.
Update on Tougen Anki: Starting with Ep. 4, each episode is available for one week only. Don’t miss it!

Glad to have Best Girl Miki get her own episode and Best Big Bro Katsuya to get his. Doing a good job of focus episodes for the main student cast as they get involved with the Yokai of the week and how Nube helps them overcome their problems. Good mix of wholesome and horror.
Although really that whole Miki situation could've been handled soooo much better. Like you shouldn't be having communication issues, Nube!
Seems like Nube strikes out with Ritsuko as much as he strikes out with not getting his pay docked from property damage during his fights.

| Quote: | | I've not read the original manga or seen the 90s anime series, so I've no idea if there's an overarching plot or if it remains this episodic. |
I checked out some of the original manga and the 90s anime out of curiosity; I can confirm that the manga's story structure is largely episodic where the students and Nube encounter and handle various supernatural entities and phenomena of the week. The 90s anime sticks closely to the episodic structure, but also jumps around in adapting the manga chapters.
| Quote: | | Creepy sword dude Hatamonba deliberately entrapped him, though! |
In the OG manga (and 90s anime), Katsuya stole the money directly from the Hatamonba shrine's donation box to make up enough to purchase a video game (not crepes) for his sister, thus incurring the demon's anger (the entrapment is a rewrite for the remake). IMO the OG story had this undercurrent of a cautionary/moral tale for its readers; don't steal from religious donation boxes (although it does set up Katsuya as the good at heart kid who does naughty things).

I thought episode 6 was decent, but everyone brushing off Makoto's fear of Teketeke seemed silly when most of the main characters in the class have dealt with spirits and yokai at this point. Why would they assume this one wasn't real when the others were?

I feel like a lot of Nube's issues wouldn't be a problem if he just better communicated with his students. Though I think the problem with Ritsuko was just bad timing instead of him being unable to keep his mouth shut.
Honestly Miki becoming a youtuber would be the least surprising development.
So I guess now Nube is okay with Kyoko and Hiroshi following him because they'd already helped him and, frankly, he probably couldn't send them away even if he wanted to.
The Teketeke was both one of the more monstrous and one of the most tragic spirits we've encountered so far. And delivered some necessary spiritual justice at the end.
