I do not find anything particularly sad about it, I mean, King of Fighters XV came out just a few years ago, SNK was going to make a new KOF to coincide with the series' 30th anniversary, though maybe they could have released a KOF XV complete edition with all DLC characters included, though I guess SNK were/are busy with City of the Wolves and its DLC.

I mean XV is from 2022 and All Stars ended service. Back in the 90s, SNK and Yumekobo made a spinoff game that mixed fights with a visual novel like format but never released it outside Japan. Translating it or remaking it would be a better way to celebrate KOF than a mobile and focus on another fighting game that's impossible for some characters to even be DLC. There is also the ridiculous marketing COTW had when compared to the more tame KOFXV.

Sure if we overlook how lazy that is. And how that’s probably do worse than COTW.

Despite the hate they get from some sections of gamers mobile games are incredibly lucrative and successful. Any company would be foolish to not capitalize on them. And I'll take a new game, no matter what it is, over a re-release or old game. That seems like the ultimate lazy anniversary reveal to just tell people to go play games that came out 30 years ago. And translating a Japanese only game is only a benefit to English speakers. Japan would get nothing for the anniversary since they already had it.

They can also be a waste of time and resources if there’s not enough to entice gamers to keep wasting time (& money) on them.
