his or her start

Friendly reminder that "their" is still a valid pronoun.

I think the word comes with some baggage and presumptions in this day and age with people often seeing it and automatically assuming someone doesn't identify as either a man or a woman like what happened with the mangaka of Dinosaur Sanctuary and people thinking he was non-binary. as the article referred to him as a they. Saying 'his or her' establishes they're being unisex in a statement while also avoiding any confusion on how someone may identify.

It's not like it's anything new. "Their" used to be considered unacceptable in that case because it was a plural pronoun, so we've more or less come full circle.

Suisei is already a psychotic axe murderer (in character), so she’s got that more than covered.

It's hilarious that people treat vtubers as both a person capable of being on a forbes list but also a fictional character. Just idolizing the mask some rando is wearing for the moment.

Vtubers are essentially interactable fictional characters at the end of the day. The person behind the role are just actors like any other fictional role. If this was Elmo or Kermit or some other fictional character people pretend are real when they do interviews on talk shows or something people wouldn't say anything but since this is anime it's 'weird'.

The difference is that the actor for Elmo/Kermit can be replaced while the Vtuber's 95% of the time, cannot be replaced. So essentially, when the actor retires, the vtuber retires.

Not in this case as:
1. As far as I've seen, the identity of the individual known as Nashi is not public information (hence the use of "his or her start").
2. "Japan does not have specific third-person gender-neutral pronouns like "they" in English". So even if Nashi is non-binary, culturly wise "their" might not be the right pronoun to use.

Apparently Suisei on the cover has caused this issue of Forbes Japan to sell out online on Amazon JP and the publisher is currently printing more copies lmao
