The tariffs are illegal, but we're just gonna let you keep on breaking the law for another six weeks, as a treat.

Instead of promoting fair trade, the Trump tariffs were essentially a form of economic bullying, forcing Americans to pay more for foreign goods and funneling money into the government’s coffers, all while pretending it’s about 'supporting local industries.

If I remember right, the idea is it's supposed to allow for any appeals or challenges. Thing is, it's as plain as day these are illegal and were him overstepping his boundaries and powers. Tariffs are a power given to Congress, not the Executive. They have caused untold damage to the economy, mostly because the current guy in office doesn't know what tariffs are and what their purpose is. We'll see how the SCOTUS handles it.

Three of the sitting Supreme Court Justices owe their positions to him, and there was a lot of talk during their vetting process about how undeserving they were of the appointments (not to mention one of them has already been cited for conflict of interest since appointment). The only thing they had going for them was because the person doing the recommendation was absolutely sure that when it came down to the actual decisions which mattered they would side with the executive position.

Not to mention it's a 6-3 split in ideological stance in favour of the ruling party. Only a majority needs to agree to overturn the appeals court. I would be VERY surprised if the rigged bench actually grows a spine at this juncture.

Well, roughly 70 million of the electorate voted him in. I suppose the saying "You've made your bed now lie in it" seems apt. Says a lot about the country and its governing systems that those who voted him in are now either squealing about the tariff-induced prices or blaming their ideological opponents for the mess they were responsible for.

We all know how the conservative Supreme Court prostitutes will vote. All these tariffs do is harm the American people by forcing us to pay more for everything we buy. The money isn’t even being used for the purpose of paying by down the national debt, as evidenced by the administration adding 3+ trillion to it.

It really sucks because I have paid in full preorders with Amiami and Yiggybean that are supposed to ship in October. I doubt they’ll ever make the trip across the sea.

Given how it messes with businesses, namely big ones that contribute campaign dollars, not to mention the health of the President, it’s not that black and white. It’d be one thing if it was only affecting small businesses, but you have everyone from usually R friendly donors to Elon saying they’re dumb.

The court ruled against him before (in both terms) (sometimes on even bigger matters than this), and they can do it again.

Have to agree with Wyvern on this, if the tariffs are ruled illegal then they should not be still in effect, regardless of the opportunity for appeal

Maybe the lower courts are becoming hesitant to strike down administration policies without giving the S.C. time for review? There have been some pretty notable and underexplained (i.e., on the shadow docket) reversals of lower court decisions in the past few months.

Honestly the craziest part to me is that people have already been charged these illegal tariffs, lost out on business and profits due to them, etc. If an individual or company did something that caused those losses there would be a lawsuit for the money that was stolen and then some. But instead they get to keep robbing people while they debate out the legality of an obviously illegal act Rolling Eyes

I’m not against tariffs either, but blanket tariffs by someone who obviously (from his track record too) doesn’t understand business/economy and don’t account for products and materials that can’t be procured in the USA are stupid.
