Volume 1 isn’t even out yet! Was reader reaction that negative?

WHAT?! I was actually enjoying this, yeah the plot isn't anything particularly special but it's solid and the art is so good. Why are they always so quick to axe T.T

Was surprised that it ended as abruptly and anticlimactically as it did, since the pace at which they were getting new body parts made it feel like the writing was on the wall for a long time and maybe they had some plan to end things decently. Good art but nothing else to really make the manga stand out from the pack

But thank you Kaedegami, you've ensured Otr gets to live for a tiny bit longer

Seeing that this keep was the final chapter when I read it last night bummed me out. I was enjoying this one and I'm surprised it got the axe before some of the other ongoing series in Jump.

I've noticed Jump is tending to give new series a bit more time before they get axed, around 6 months when before the norm seemed to be around 4, but I guess that still isn't a sure thing. This was only around for 4 months and I can see a couple others around that length going soon too. When you add series as aggressively as Jump you gotta keep cutting stuff to make room for the next wave of new stuff I suppose.

I enjoyed the story. But a few weeks back I noticed the art quality dropping and immediately got the impression that the author might be straining themselves and wasn't quite ready for weekly serialization.

I didn't expect it would actually get axed.

This one was an edge case for me, so I'm not surprised, but it is unfortunate. The character art was generally appealing, but often struggled to convey a sense of space, let alone action.

Story-wise, it was moving at a suspiciously brisk pace. You can tell there was a lack of confidence in the core narrative by how quickly this series' Gotei 13 got introduced. Similar to the double jump metric in video games (i.e. how confident the devs are in their game's movement controls and level design is conveyed by how long they delay giving the player a double jump), anime/manga that suddenly throw a whole organization worth of quirky characters who may have interally conflicting interests are tipping their hand that they know the main cast aren't interesting enough on their own to carry the plot.

Also it couldn't seem to decide on whether Kou and Chiyou's relationship should be interpreted as familial or romantic? If you've ever hesitated to recommend something to a friend and described it as being "very [pregnant pause] anime," then you know what I mean.
