I don't think it would be awful or scummy. Disappointing maybe, for fans of the Funimation/Crunchyroll dub, but for all we know, the new dub cast could be even better. Maybe the Japanese studio wants to go a different direction, like Khara's when they recast for the Netflix dub of Evangelion.

The visuals are definitely on par with modern One Piece (which is probably half the point of why this remake even exists).

I seem to recall reading that Tanaka (and if she's back that probably means they're bringing back as much of the original anime as they can) was hoping they'd go with new VA's but I read that she acquiesced when she found out the remake has a set end point (wherever that is). I mean, she can't just be repeating herself indefinitely.

I hope that Netflix brings back the Funimation cast for vocal consistency.

Too much cgi and 3d. same old voice cast. boring.
They had a great opportunity to finally get a new cast with a fresh remake yet they chose to be cowardly and cast the exact same voice actors. was expected though.

Easily skippable.

The reveal that Luffy (and likely the rest of the crew) is getting the original VA back for WIT Piece kinda makes me skeptical that we're getting a full remake now.

Honestly, we'll be lucky to go beyond East Blue but I'll take what we can get.

100%. that is pretty much a confirmation a full remake is not happening. it's probably just the east blue.

The end point is just the east blue. it won't go further.

To be honest, Crunchyroll is one of the worst offenders of recasting so I don't really feel bad for them.

Literally what does that have anything to do with the actors themselves? If they aren't recasting on the JP side, there's no real reason to go out of the way to do it over here, especially since a decent amount of the main cast have either been in union dubs before or no longer live in Texas so it's not like it isn't logistically feasible. The Funimation cast have been voicing these characters for close to two decades at this point and Toei's always maintained final say in casting on the dub so any arguments about wanting a more curated dub cast or whatever don't really make sense when that's already been the case since the Funimation dub was greenlit (of course going off that Answerman article about this remake it wouldn't be shocking if Shueisha decided they wanted a new cast just to distinguish their version from Toei's but it's not like Toei has zero involvement here either so hard to know who would have final say there)

It's one thing if they say themselves they'd rather not reprise their roles, but otherwise, throwing them under the bus would be pretty scummy.
