After the praise for Chainsmoker Cat, maybe my expectations were too high. I expected it to be much funnier than it was. And the so-called shocking parts aren't so shocking in this day and age. By the halfway point, I took a break and haven't come back to it 'cause by the middle of the episode, I was... bored. Which I didn't really expect to feel.

Dara-san, however, surrprised me. I went in expecting some ecchi borderline hentai "comedy" that would not be funny or interesting. But this kept my attention and made me interested in all 3 main characters. Sometimes, a show you had negative expectations towards it can surprise you.

I've been enjoying Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You already with the mini-episodes, and I adore the manga, so continuing my watch will be a no-brainer on my part.

I'll check out some of the other shows this weekend. Definitely too hot where I am to go do much except stay home.

I remember earlier in the year the Chainsmoker Cat manga was in the Winter Manga guide and I went to check it out thinking "This sounds kinda punk or at least a funny disaster". I don't think I even made it through the first chapter.

Reading the review of "draw this them die" and I just had to ask what state had these spartan ferries with wooden seats? Living on an island in Canada I've ridden a lot of ferries with plush seats, video game arcades, a book store, coffee shop, and cafeteria on board. There are some very short routes that are little more than a car carrier though. Those don't provide much more than washroom facilities.

Maine. One hour, fifteen minutes on wooden bench seats with grubby washrooms and the pervasive smell of diesel. Or, if you're out further in the bay, two and a half hours, same type of boat.

I watch most of the anime premieres each season. Up to today, the only ones that really caught my interest were Kaiju Girl and World Is Dancing. I thoroughly enjoyed them, and both are going on my “must watch” list. They both totally deserve their review trophies!

Today, I was expecting to just skim thru Frontier Lord but I found it unexpectedly charming. While I completely understand Rebecca’s distaste, I lean towards James’ more agnostic take on the story so I just rolled with it. What can I say? I’m a sucker for eager good-hearted idiots like Dias, and I love Alna’s character design. Guess I’ll stick around for episode 2. It might be my Accidental Iyashikei™ for the season. Color me surprised.

We've had a number of anime lately which make smoking look attractive, even glamorous, and I suspect health authorities and the anti-smoking lobby have decided to fight back with Chainsmoker Cat, which does the very opposite and sets out to make smoking and smokers look filthy and disgusting (which smoking is, really) [...] Trainspotting).

I was looking for this comment - sums it up pretty good.
Chainsmoker Cat is vile but enjoyable to watch. Not having read the manga I just hope that there is some meaningful story progression but my fear is that the show will get repetative like Smoking behind the Supermarket with you which radiates feel good vibes but even in the latest manga chapter has hardly any story progression.

Another thing I noticed (not sure if it was mentioned already) is the heavy use of camera drives like it was shot for a 3d movie e.g. in The Exiled Heavy Knight knows how to game the System.

Draw Die #1
Having read the start of the mangá I already knew this would be the best anime this Season, maybe the best anime this Year, but I'm blow away!
It's one of those that use the mangá as reference, not as a storyboard.
Plus, one of the artists I follow on BSKY is in here! Tomii Masako! I recognized her painting instantly!
That's why while I was watching I was a bit bothered thinking, "why are they only showing famous mangá? Couldn't they take the opportunity to show more unknown mangá from less successful mangaká?". But them Tomii Masako herself showed her face in the COMITIA scene which makes em think, are those three other artists also all real people?

SUCH INCREDIBLE FIRST EPISODE!

(I'm just a bit unsure about the protagonista having that imagination BEFORE discovering the teacher's mangá, I don't remember her being that way before that fateful encounter)

Just a couple housekeeping notes:

Surely that’s the wrong thumbnail for the Draw This, Then Die! preview page description?
Can you please fix the countdown on the 10 Year Last Stand page to show that it has debuted so we can rate the (not very good) episode?

Thanks!

? It's the main character, and the manga she's holding is the same as the one she's holding on the cover of the first tankoubon of the series.

I've been reading the light novel for this(j-novel club) so this is a must-watch. Besides, I'm always in for more age-gap stories(Dias is 35 and Alna 15 when the story starts).

Hana-Kimi 2 is the first on my watchlist to air, and it was good! Same sweet charm as Season 1.

Is the Spanish colonizer anime about town building?

Because I like town building.

It is an harem?

Because I hate that.

Brother and sister, rather. Black-haired middle schooler Hinata is the older sister, blonde Kaoru the boy.

James Beckett wrote:

Not all that inexplicable, since it was actually mentioned in the show that he takes after his Australian father who has has blonde hair and blue-eyes.

We all know the real reason James liked Draw this, then die! is because the first manga we see in the rental shop is Teasing Maser Takagi-san.

I tried to watch the first episode of Heavy Knight. Never thought I could get vertigo from watching an anime.
