Should I Give Up on Hellsing Ultimate?

Or should I still keep my fingers crossed, and pray Funi will release some DVD info on V and VI in the next century or so?

As long as questions are being asked...does anybody know if there is a precedence for collecting several OVAs together, like the Hellsing Ultimate ones, and releasing them as a single collection?

Well, with the coolness of Blu-ray, one can hope that someday when the series is complete that FUNi might consider upconverting the whole thing to HD and releasing it in a box set.

Personally, I'm not even buying anime on DVD anymore because 1) I have way too many DVDs already, and 2) a lot of anime these days are getting HD broadcasts and BD releases in Japan as it is.

So what it comes down to is either U.S. companies at least matching the HD-ness of Japan (which seems to be limited to either feature films a la Bandai or select titles from FUNi), or just me downloading BD/HDTV rips (hint, hint, I really would like to collect Code Geass on BD, and then some).

Off-Topic: Me personally, I'd LOVE a Kara no Kyoukai BD release. BD was practically invented for it. As for Code Geass...eh. =/ The DVD is as pretty as is, I think. The show is a lot to swallow in anyhow. Anime hyper

On-Topic: While a DVD and/or BD Hellsing Ultimate collection would be super, and for Funi and a high-selling title like Hellsing, seems like a no-brainer, this very lack of anything regarding V and VI really just seems like wishful thinking to me. Anime cry

It's depressing. =_=

In response to a few of the comments made in this thread:

1) Hellsing Ultimate is going to be released on Blu-ray over in Japan (vols. I-V). There will also be some redone animation (most likely some minor stuff). I'm not sure what the specific date is, because the press release was mocking the constant release delays that the series had, but it'll be in once nice and probably expensive box that I hope gets brought over here.

2) There was a solicitation for a Hellsing Ultimate box (vols. I-IV) for R1, but it got canceled and it hasn't been heard from since.

3) I'm not really sure what's the hold-up on the rest of this series being brought over here. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Geneon JPN merged with Universal JPN, but I hope that it does find a way here soon.

Only one I can think of off-hand is Giant Robo. Bear in mind that it took them NINE YEARS to finish the series first....

I'm not quite sure about the particulars of Funi/Geneon's contract but 5 and 6 are animated by a different studio. They might have to license those separately from episodes 1-4 or renegotiate and whatnot.
