As Brian Goldner, president of Hasbro Toys, said, "The stars are aligned." At San Diego Comic Con this week it was announced that DreamWorks and Paramount pictures will be creating a live action Transformers movie to premiere in theaters in 2006. Steven Speilberg is now signed on as executive producer with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, and Tom DeSanto as producers. You can read a press release here.

Forget Star Wars, this is the movie that'll get me to camp in line at the theater!

Maybe they can loosely base it on an Asimov work and call it "More Than Meets the Eye, Robot." (BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!)

But seeing as how I saw the animated TransFormers movie about thirtysome times, I'll go. You know I will.

I have but two requests for Spielberg.

#1: Use the original transformation noise.

#2: Get Eric Idle. "Destroy Unicron! Kill the Grand Poobah! Eliminate even the toughest stains!"

Too bad they won't include the voice actor for Starscreamfrom the original series.
(Chris "Cobra Commander" Latta passed away 10 years ago. Sad )

I'm sure with today's CGI effects it's a no brainer. They gotta go with a new Metal soundtrack too, just not as campy as the hair metal music from the 1986 Movie.

An update on some of the things Don Murphy has said on his forum

-No mass shifting: They're going for realism (as strange that sounds coming from a movie about giant, shape-changing robots) so when they transform they'll remain about the same size in both forms. In other words, no growing and shrinking. Because of this...
-Megatron will not be a gun and Soundwave not a cassette player: In his words changing like that is "lame". Keep in mind, though, that he said that about the transformations, NOT the characters. Because of this he had said that he may not use Soundwave, however that caused a ruckus so now he says he may be there, but not transform. They're currently trying to find a new transformation for Megatron (likely a tank).
-No animals: In his words, "We are NOT doing anything to do with Beasts and Dinos and shit." In other words, no Dinobots. (On this someone made a hilarious comment about their dismay towards the lack of "Shitformers".)
-There will be a toy line (duh).
-There will be core "teams" of 7 on each side "ala X MEN".
-They're listening: apparently they're looking for all the fan input they can get.
-No voice actors yet: They're of course taking note of the fan pleads for Frank Welker and Peter Cullen, but nothings been signed yet with anyone. He also said, "I think celebrity voices for a film like this is moronic." Read into that however you want.
-They are trying to license real vehicles. This shouldn't be too hard, Hasbro has already gathered several licenses for their toy lines, they just have to convert them to film rights (and what movie doesn't have vehicle rights?).
-Best of all worlds: While the focus will be on a G1 story line, it may not be THE G1 storyline, they may be compiling some of the best features/charaters from all lines. He has already expressed interest in Hotshot (from Armada/Energon).

And I think that's about everything. Keep in mind that this is far from being set in stone. Don is only one of 3 producers and only has part of the say on this movie. Things can and will change rapidly from here on out, atleast until they get a script.

He's the executive producer not the director. With all the projects that he already has lined up, I would be very (pleasantly) suprised if he decides to direct "The Transformers".

Nagi mad!

Anyway, I heard a rumour elsewhere that Grimlock would be remade into an old Ford Mustang or something to that effect. Didn't hear much else beyond that, though.

That's the Transformers Alternators (or Binaltech in Japan) toy line. He'll be a 2005 Ford Mustang:

Hm...would have worked better as an old vintage Mustang...like the 1969 model or something (since...old & powerful...and T.rex...also old & powerful, but even moreso).

Which can be yours IF The Price is Right.

No, seriously. I'll watch to see if it shows up because I'll have nothing better to do in college. After all, TPiR has agreements with Ford Motor Company, GM, and Daimler-Chrysler.

Sorry for the tangent. I just couldn't help it! Anime hyper

Although an orchestra soundtrack might be somewhat contemporary, you may have a point there.

The 80's animated movie was actually the first threatrical animated flick that i have seen, (not Disney's cutsey stuff!)
and actually one of my all time favorites. Although most of the
Hair Metal songs were a bit much, the intro theme was "off the hook" worth me buying the damn CD for in the first place.

How is it contemporary. It's old skool.
