Howabout instead of heaping hate on Funi and Fractale's creators, why not help out and anyone who knows anything about the speedsubbers send Lance a PM?
I mean, it certainly wouldn'rt hurt, and it would get a lot done. I find it wierd fans are always so quick to shame creators, distributors and publishers in a hateful manner for something beyond their control, but never, ever want to take fansubbers to task.

Why don't we all go after HorribleSubs?

I offered. I have the info on my hard disk. I am just waiting for public confirmation from Funi that they will actually do something about it. I'm not going to let them get away with a blatant cop-out otherwise.

This. I say take 'em down. Yeah, taking down one site like that isn't going to prevent it completely forever, but the harder it is to get the illegal version, the more likely someone is to watch the legal version.

You do realize that speedsubbers are only one of many people doing this right? FPC demanded the removal of ALL, 100% of the illegal content of their show on the internet. If that's not an impossible task I dunno what is.

To be honest, it almost feels like FPC is purposly giving Funimation a hard time for no reason beside they could.

Yeah, HorribleSubs, et. al. is far more the villain in this than the Japanese production committee.

The Japanese company is being completely obtuse, but their not doing anything outright immoral.

I'm assuming for the sake of logical consistency that the FPC will pull the show from Fuji TV as well until the broadcaster pitches in and helps Funi wipe out all fansubbers/rippers on the Internet, yes?

Naw, Fuji TV (Funimation) didn't do anything wrong. It's not their fault that people record the episodes (rip the streams) and proceed to upload them onto the net (use as their own reference for building the subs). I mean, when anyone with the right tools and knowledge can get whatever content they want on the net, you can't get mad at everyone. You just have to work around and develop better methods of combating this loss of profits.

...Wait...

Shh. Stop trying to make sense. We're trying to run this industry into the ground.

Everything is know about who subs what. All Lance apparently knows what speed sub group has ruffled the feathers of the FPC. Assuming that Funimation's Anti-piracy team competent enough to google the name of the group and do a DNS lookup they should have all the legal information anyone here could get.

None of us here have any legal grounds to go after fansubbers.

What's next? Will they order Funimation to return to unauthorized videos to them? Laughing

I just can not begin to understand why the FPC has taken this stance. I mean, yes, piracy sucks, but to ask Funimation to get rid of ALL illegal subs of Fractale before they will allow them to do a legal stream...uh, you guys are going to be waiting a while on that. And you're encouraging piracy at the same time! I'm sure Funi will be able to C&D the major subbers, but it'll be nigh impossible to remove all of them.

Lance, I am so sorry that you guys have been put in this position.

Take down a few of them, give the others a good scare. Having a few fansubbers go to court would probably help cut down on some things.

Given it's just one show, if FUnimation puts it's resources into it, I imagine they might pull things off. Keep in mind they're perpetually getting stuff take offline as it is for *all* their shows, so I'm curious if shifting resources onto just one title might make a difference

Anyhoo, I mostly just want fans to stop being shortsighted, stop attacking Funimation and the show's creators, and go after the real jerks who inspired this mess.

Arsenic---- we can't go after fansubbers, but we can at least place blame on them rather than ranting at Funimation or whinging about all this on ANN's forums nonstop. And I imagine there's a handful of people reading this thread who might have info that could be helpful to Funi, so if you're reading this, send them that info.

As a former fansubber of an unlicensed series (that so ought to be licensed, Michiko & Hatchin is fantastic, Funimation!), I say HorribleSubs is not even a real fansubbing team, they're just lazy asses distributing somebody's else's work.

But also, last I checked, they weren't "releasing" Fractale, since Funi has better security than CR, so going after them in this instance will not help. Sad

then send the info to Lance VIA PM. I think the article is pretty much indicative that Funi is going to go after them- they've done so in the past on the behalf of licensors , from what I recall. If you have the info, send it to Lance. Or go to Funi's website and e-mail or call them.

Nice FUD. They're not releasing Fractale because it's being subbed (in higher quality video than Funi's version) by fansub groups. CR's security is vastly superior to Funi's/hulu's.

You guys can keep jumping to conclusions or you can believe the people who are in the accused speedsub/ripping community. Your choice.

Does filing a DCMA letter cost Funi money? Most legal streams already operate at a loss. Seems that Funi would have to file for every current site and any future site. I can see Funi never making money with Fractle either as a stream or R1 license.

Funi may just have to walk away and try working with them again in the future. A future that includes rational thought.

I can understand FPC wanting to protect their copyright. However I think this approach just creates a 1920's Prohibition atmosphere.

Good luck Funimation.
