I grew up in a magical time where in one afternoon on tv you could watch; The Transfomers Tranzor Z Robotec and Voltron (sometimes vehicle and lion in the same day) and still have time to do you're homework before youre parents came home.
I feel sorry for this generation because they don't have this the most popular thing thats even close to the wonders of mecha in my child hood are live action (ultraman and power rangers) or gundam seed . is there ever a hope of such an awesome mecha force retuning to American Tv will Votron ever be relesed in this country on Dvd? Will i ever have a hope of finding a copy of Robotec Tranzor z (mazinga) with the japanese voice tracks. Why does so little mecha get liscened. what is youre personal wish list for mecha to come to this country or be rereleased whats youre dream after school satuday morning lineup? |

I really loved the Patlabor series. Although the show did not focus specifically on the labors, the mechs were believeable and seemed like they could really exist. Great story too.

I want to see the Leiji Mastsumoto mecha anime, Danguard Ace, brought over. I'd check out Go Nagi's stuff, even though I'm not that familiar with him other than enjoying the over the top zanniness of Getter Robo Armageddon. And of course aything brought over from Yoshiyuki Tomino's catalogue is pretty much a must buy for me. Thankfully older stuff from the 80's beggining to get licensed, but the 70's seem to still be off the radar, hopefully not for long though.

Actually, they did.
In 1980, there was a five-days-a-week block of dubbed anime that appeared on television in a block called Force Five. The block included. Spaceketeers (Leiji Matsumoto) Starvengers (AKA Getter Robo G from Go Nagai) Grandizer (Go Nagai) Gaiking (Go Nagai) Danguard Ace (Go Nagai) You can only find the first four shows on a four tape VHS set called Spaced Out Japanimation sold for $10. You'll have to look around though. |

Don't you mean Matsumoto did Danguard Ace? Actually I've seen bootlegged videos at a con before, but I didn't pick it up. I'm sure that treatment sucks though.

First off whats up Anime News Network!
I used to love (and still do) old school mecha. Transformers, Tranzor Z and Voltron were my favorites. Robotech was kinda cool. I`m not a hater but it wasn`t my favorite. Anyway is there any chance of Mazinger Z coming to R1 DVD? Not to mention Great Mazinger! Thanks |

I love classic super robos or mech anime.
I already mentioned quite a few in the other classic anime thread. I prefer the more serious shows where there were a lot of focus on the characters and their interaction as well as the mechs...and series that did have romance in them 
But, the series, which were more light-hearted were a nice change of pace. One of the best ones is finally coming here in December. Zeta Gundam. A previous poster mentioned Gundam Seed and that is one of the nice modern mech series. Although, I still prefer the classic UC Gundam series best. Even with other nice and modern mech series like Tenku no Escaflowne (maybe my favourite modern mech series), Neon Genesis Evangelion, & Dual Parallel Universe (though this one feels more like romance with big robos hehe)...there are a lot more great mechs from the 70's and 80's. Getter Robo and it's whole series line was one that I should have mentioned in the other message topic. And, sorry for rambling...but I have to mention one more thing. I you can play import video games and enjoy playing video games in general...you will love the great Super Robot Taisen series. They are jam packed with so many of the great and classic robots along with modern ones too. And, still there are so many great and classic mechs left for future SRT games

Yes, the voice acting was terrible and you can really see the static in some still shots. Not to mention the new title sequences have some problems. But aside from the name changes and switching of the music between series, most of the shows on Force Five were uncut. I'm surprised they actually kept in words like kendo. |

I disagree. Shinkon Gattai Godannar!! is more of an insult to the Super Robot Genre. |
