It's all true. There's a thread about this already in the talkback section.

Another "Naruto is licensed" thread? Admittedly, it's only all over the web. Like darkhunter said, it's been on the front page for a while now.

So please look first.

well heck..there is a new aspect of this that hasn't been discussed however..

Why are there people still selling fansubs of Naruto on a popular auction website? Whos the greater evil? Bootleggers or people who sell fansubs? There are so many. Now that there is a license, will there be a crackdown?

And what about a a certain website out there that is charging a monthly membership fee to allow access to fansubs of Naruto?

Will there be action taken? Should there be action taken?

Because they're either dishonest or just plain greedy?

The bootleggers, of course. They actually make money as opposed to fansubbers who just do it for free.

Probably, but not much. There are lots of sites out there that still have fansub torrents for licensed anime.

Now that's a first. I've never heard of a website actually charging people for fansubs. That is out right bootleggary at its peak (if that's even a word Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop).

Tony, I think Isaaru was comparing bootleggers and those who sell fansubs made by fansubbers who distributed it for free (and mostly before licensing). To me, this is even worse than bootleggers, for bootleggers have invested time and money (although for illegal reasons) and want get the investment back, while those who selling fansubs acquired them from fansubbers for free, and keep selling them even when fansubbers marked them "This is a free fansub. Not for sale or rent" and after licensing.

This reminds me that couple years ago when I was in San Diego, CA. There were free black-and-white bus route maps outside MTS store downtown SD, but the beautiful full-colored Regional Transit Map with all bus routes together were only available one per person (it's still free of charge) in store. When I asked the staff why didn't they put the map outside, they told me that some people took them in large quantity and sold them to unknown travellers. Mad

Yup. They just started yesterday, in response to AnimeSuki and others pulling the torrents down. Basically they announced they will keep access to the fansubs online, and even new episodes. But to access all the ones removed, you need to pay for thier plus membership (which previously was just to access past episodes without subtitles). So you pay the membership, you get access to naruto fansubs that seem unavailable no where else by torrent.

Personally they are taking advantage of the zillions of mindless followers on the site who are VERY RABID on thier forum about the liscensing.

Thats really messed up.

However..I am now adding BOOTLEGGARY to my vocabulary. : Laughing

Just the Preteens. Razz It's pretty odd when a man in his 40's ask me everyweek for the new Naruto and new EGM. But yeah, so long Dragonball comics/DVD/goods, hello Naruto novels/DVD/head bands.

Ah~ I see what you mean now. I'd never actually seen a bootleg that was just burned fansubs on DVD before. All the bootlegs I've seen were either R1 copies or "homemade" Chinese boots with the horrible spelling and grammar Anime dazed.

But yeah, the bootleggers that can't even do their own subbing are even more terrible than the ones that do put in a little "effort" (as strange as that sounds Razz).

Why would fansubbers quit when they're way ahead of the "licensed" anime anyway?

Sueing, other such reasons that involve money and the law.
