"It’s worse than the average episode of Star Trek"

Not only is Star Trek the best and most influencial series of all time but it also has great space battles and not just talking heads. In actual fact Deep Space Nine has the best space battles ever shown on TV.

While I'll agree that DS9 had some of the best space combat on TV..

... most DS9 episodes weren't about space combat. They were about Quark running illegal gambling schemes, or Odo turning into a pile of goo, or whats-his-face the Doctor being able to play darts from across the room.

Time travel, impossible medical breakthroughs (or, medical breakthroughs that were previously surpassed on ST:TNG), worm hole closing, prisoners being taken in the cardassian/bejoran conflict (and subsequently escaping)...

... DS9 had more than its fair share of retread plots and go-nowhere storylines. ST certainly has influenced much of sci-fi to this day... but just because it's an influence doesn't make it superb the entire time.

at least, imo. :)

Star Trek is good and influentual but I wouldn't say it's the "best and most influental series of all time".

Hey, I liked the episodes about Quark's schemes! I know that some people argue that Deep Space 9 is the best Trek because it was the only one with story arcs that ran for more than two or three episodes, but I think it had the best "filler" episodes too, and I love "filler" episodes.

ROTFLMAO!

Staf Trek is pulp fiction. The only version of Star Trek that had any value beyond entertainment value was the original. It's contribution to cinema, literature and television, was one of breaking ground. Being somewhat original and eventually (it was cancelled because of low ratings) pushing the Sci Fi genre to new heights in popularity. This popularity was then part of the motivation behind many other great, and even more not so great TV shows, movies and books.

In terms of critical literary value, Star Trek never had any. Its rife with plot holes, meaningless techno-bable, unrealistic scenarios, bad acting, worse writting, etc, etc, etc...

And I happen to enjoy Star Trek, but I'm not so daft to think that just because I like it, it's any good.

I'm no Trek fan, but how much anime is better? Some, but not a lot.

I think DS9 was week cause the space station was just sitting there (floating?) The whole thing that was great about Star Trek (and tNG) was that they traveled around and explored. As for Banner of the Stars, I watched CotS on Tech TV a few weeks ago, and I'm looking forward to this new chapter.

I'd say Star Trek ranks somewhere just above average when compared to Anime. There are unquestionably many, many entertaining Anime series that are no better.
