I was wondering if any of you have ever been to Comiket in past years. We will be in Japan this August and would like to go. Maybe you could share some experiences? I'd also be interested in other anime related conventions or events happening in Japan in August (Kanto and Kansai region) if anyone could point me in a direction where I might be able to get some information? Thank you.

Hi there, I'm still new to this forum, but I live in Japan and currently working myself towards the distribution of Japanese culture towards the outside world.
I haven't been to the Comiket for the last couple of years since it needs an awful lot of queuing and waiting if you want to purchase specific items etc. But if you're not after that and/or if you just want to experience the atmosphere, I'd be delighted to help you out.
Although, since I'm a newbie to this forum, you might want to wait a bit for the veterans to have their say. For the time being, I'll be around gathering infos on the activities happening around this forum.
All the best,
Dr. Potemkin (pronounced: pochomkin)

Hi Dr. Potemkin,
even though I'm quite the newbie myself - welcome.
I am so happy I got a response.
Yes, we just want to go for the atmosphere, not to buy anything special, just to stroll and enjoy. I heard that newbies might want to wait until midday before going, to avoid the queues and crowds in the morning? We were playing with the idea of cosplaying at first (you know, if you're at Comiket once in a lifetime, why not go all the way), but decided against it for lack of experience and the possibility of humiliating ourselves for not getting it 100% right and offending other fans by doing so.

That's awesome! I'd like to ask you a ton of questions now, but I will try to restrain myself a bit. But feel free to recommend anything interesting (be it anime related or not) in and around Tokyo, Kansai, Hiroshima and Kyūshū in August, if you want to. We would like to experience Japan from a less touristy point of view and interact with the locals as much as possible, not only visit the major sights etc. Greatly appreciated if you feel like it.
Dear moderators, if this is getting too much of a personal holiday planning here for other people to enjoy, please tell me so.
