I do not think I've seen this topic around, so here we go.
I'm sure all of has have an extensive "Want to See" lists when it comes to anime. There's only so much time in the day that one is able to watch anime, so it's unavoidable. I thought i'd create this topic to talk about a show everyone tells you to watch but you don't, or a show you've heard is really good but you just haven't seen it. Perhaps other people can chime in to encourage people on certain shows. So what's the most popular show or best rated show on your list that you have not watched yet? What's stopping you, is it interest or time etc? Are you someone that hates hype? Expectations too high? Not licensed in the US? As for me I like to think I have seen a lot of anime, but there are a few shows that come to mind that I have not seen that are considered popular or highly rated. Keep in mind when I say popular I am simply referring to a show that a lot of people have seen for example, similar to the Most Popular Anime list on ANN. Most Popular Shows I haven't seen - Elfen Lied - This is probably my biggest offender. Once again I'm not saying this show is a masterpiece hailed by everyone and I should be watching it, but a lot of people have seen this and I haven't. It's also ranked at #8 on ANN's Most Popular anime list. This show has actually been out for a really long time since I started watching anime, probably since I was in middle school. I think the reason I initially never watched it was because of how disturbing I heard it was. As time went on I also heard a lot of mixed reviews so I lost interest and kind of brushed this show aside. Blood+ - Few reasons I have never watched this. One was at the time it was airing on adult swim I seemed to have this ridiculous mentality that it's only on adult swim because it is mainstream and I am "above" mainstream anime. I think the main reason stopping me now is it is kind of expensive to own show. It costs somewhere over $200 to own this whole show (granted it is over 50 episodes). I've also heard mixed reviews on this show so I've put it aside. There is a good chance I will borrow this from someone. Highest Rated Anime I have not seen Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (movie) - I think I've read in an interview somewhere that Miyazaki wasn't pleased with how this movie turned out or he thought this was his worst movie. That's the main reason I have not seen this yet. People have told me to read the manga instead. So it looks like for me it's a combination of time, interest, and just other shows I have lined up before these. Perhaps some of you have greater offenders on your list. Are you someone who just refuses to watch Code Geass or Gurren Lagann? Perhaps you won't touch Bakemonogatari o_o... what's your story? |

I know that the actual movie only covered a small bit of the entire manga, but I've never heard anything about Miyazaki being flat-out disappointed with how it turned out. I always thought he was quite proud of it, from how he spoke of it during the interviews found on the DVDs and all. It is amazing, after all. If you haven't seen it yet, then you should jump at the chance right now. Coincidentally, today it just got re-released on a BD/DVD combo pack. I haven't seen it forever and my order on it just got shipped today--you should get it to. 
--- Anyway, the only one I can really think of at the moment is probably Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is soon to change as I'm gonna get into it very soon, starting with getting both of the first 2 rebuild movies on BD. But honestly, I don't let what people consider to be great awesome shows dictate what I buy next. I go buy own speed. |

There is one mega popular anime I haven't seen: One Piece.
This may sound ridiculous, but I still think that show is for older kids rather than for younger adults like me

That's what I thought I heard about Nausicaa. I'm still willing to try it. As for NGE, in my opinion you're better off watching the series before the rebuilds. Since 1.11 is a compilation I think you'll have a larger emotional impact if you watch the series first. Plus you'll be able to see all the changes, additional scenes, and nuances. Think the holiday edition with all the extras only costs like $40 on Rightstuf. The brick case is pretty plain looking but it takes up less space and it's cheaper. @Lucky I actually haven't seen One Piece either. The total episode amount seems daunting... plus I hear it's no where near ending o.o... |

I would be quite surprised. Personally, it's my favourite, and I know several people for whom it's the same. From the ANN toplist, Maria-sama (no interest in a slice of life with yuri overtones); any anime about sports (no interest in the topic whatsoever); Clannad (very rarely get into the mood for this sort of drama, and the character designs don't help; Ef kind of falls into the same category, and Nana, though not quite close). |

Kanon and Nana. I'm not really that enthusiastic about Key Works and Josei doesn't appeal to me. I know I probably should watch them, but it seems that I always have something more interesting available.

Lack of time forces me to limit the amount of watched animes, plus I have a taste for obscure shows that makes my "not watch list" pretty long.
Those that might be interesting for you: Death Note- apart from medical inconsistencies I find that just boring. Evangelion-my ex boyfriend was a fanboy.
Elfen Lied- 4 times I've tried, before I admitted that for nudity I have hentai, for plot holes Dragon Ball Movie 8 and for gore my university. Every of them is superior to that One Piece- I.Can't.Stand.Luffy's.Mug. That just make my sick. |

Honestly, I couldn’t care less about shows that are popular. The last show I watched because of popularity and because it was hailed as a masterpiece is Elfen Lied. I still think that it is the worst anime I have seen in my life and the biggest waste of time. Instead of watching most popular series which, apart from few notable exceptions, are average at best, I prefer to look for and watch obscure series that can turn out to be under-watched/read rare gems like Night on the Galactic Railroad, Angel’s Egg or Kaze to Ki no Uta.
The only popular show that I think might appeal to me is One Piece, but it has so many episodes/chapters that it’s discouraging. |

If we're talking ANN's popularity list (ie the shows that have gotten the most votes), I'm actually very well represented. 44/50 watched at least a significant portion of.
The first I haven't given any serious view of is Code Geass and its second season, I watched only a small fraction of the first episode before realizing it wasn't for me. After that, Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal and Rurouni Kenshin which I've skipped due to the franchise's incompleteness. In the bottom 10 of the top 50 I've also never seen Fate/Stay Night or Claymore. But I'm not actually terribly against watching either. And of the other shows listed, Naruto (skipped the end filler), Bleach, (abandoned during the Bount arc), and Mushi-Shi (basically forgot to finish) are the only ones I haven't watched in their entirety. As it's been mentioned, I've not watched more than an episode or two of One Piece's 4-kids dubs, but technically that doesn't hit the popularity list until #95. I may actually give it a chance when I get through my epic watch of Detective Conan. I think that gave me the taste for slowly getting through a giant series. |

I've seen 49 of the titles on ANN's Most Popular list completely or to a good extent. The only one I have yet to see is Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. I have it on my Netflix queue at the moment though I haven't had a good reception to many anime adaptations of video games which is why I have been putting off on watching it.

One Piece - I can only blame the version shown on Cartoon Network. Boy did I give this a chance, but the premise wasn't my think so I decided not to follow it. (Plus there's something about the art style that made me put it off, I shouldn't really do that but I can't help it if it doesn't attract me)
Elfen Lied - This girl kept on telling me to watch it and tbh I have other things I need to finish and the stoyline makes me put it on hold all the time. Princess Mononoke - I have no excuse they've shown it on Film 4 enough but I just got lazy PLUS I hate adverts in between. My Neighbour Tortoro - Never really springs into mind much. I see the DVD cover and I ignore it for no valid reason. Even when I get to chance to watch it online I still put it off, I guess I really just need to grow some nuts and buy it. Hellsing - I'm bored sick with storylines associated with hell and satan etc... So once again I put it off. Though I will be watching this as soon as I'm done with Cowboy Bepop. |

I'm one of those people who are 15 years behind the human race. I still have not watched Neon Genesis Evangelion yet. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Outlaw Star, and Ghost In The Shell also pop up into my mind. I really don't understand my reasons for not attempting to watch these shows yet. I'll probably end up watching them when I grow extremely bored, or just need something to watch. While my list of "Animes To Watch" may play a factor, I just find that I really don't want to bother watching these. I'll force myself to eventually watch them...
