That particular thread was moved to the 'Community Forum', which is only available to subscribers. There is another thread in 'Talkback' http://animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=170070 which is devoted to discussion of the earthquake.

I sort of find this messed up.

Unless our subscriber money is going towards the relief effort.

It was likely moved because it was posted in the 'Anime' forum. Since it was not actually about anime, but the disaster itself, it would be considered to be in the wrong place, especially since there is an active thread on the subject in 'Talkback'. The Mods here are particular about posting threads in the correct forums.

This is what the moderator said, mate:

Although I know this is of great interest to many anime fans, this is not an anime-related news story, so I am moving it to the Community forum.

It's not directly anime related, which I agree. But we've had worse (like the one about some Australian case). But in my view it's just as relevant to anime, as some discussion about DVD releases (which we've had an increased output of recently), or animation companies (inc. licensees); as it'll directly impact the currently airing shows and possibly the next anime season.

Unfortunately, the front page news have already made it "anime related" thanks to moot references.

So yes, in a way, it is now.

Well the reason I brought it up wasnt because it got moved or anything. This topic and the tsunami are obviously not about anime directly so I understand them being moved and dont have anything to say about that. I brought it up because they moved the tsunami thread into a section specially reserved for only the elite population of anime fans.

Then you're mistaken. There's nothing elite about where it was moved, there's only a few dollars dedicated to getting no ads and better speeds, etc.
If anything, ANN sucks at advertising. It took me several months to notice its subscribing system.

Of course its elite, maybe thats just not your favorite choice of words but it can be described as that. We are separated into groups. Subscribers and non-subscribers. Elite subscribers get their own separate board they can post in because they pay for it. I dont see why you would immediately move a topic about the tsunami from the public anime board to the superior restricted access so that only the chosen may talk about it, thats all.

The anime forum is for specifically anime-related subjects. A real life earthquake is not anime-related. If you want to talk about the quake, there are threads in the talkback section for it.

You can discuss the ongoing crisis in the several threads dedicated to it in the Talkback forum.
