First time on the manga forum so bare with me (although I have quite the extensive collection of manga)...

First off, for anyone that has read Priest: What happened to the books? I mean, from what I can remember the last issue was 14th or so (i forgot.) And then... the writer disappeared of the face of earth.

Second, Neon Genesis Evangelion (the manga): What happened here, too? I mean, I think it went to the 9th issue... And this one also disappeared of the face of earth.

I get kind of mad when I can't finish a series, so can anyone clarify what happened to these manga-ka? Are they working on something else, or did they just quit (then again, maybe they just fell off the face of earth)?

Viz Media still has Evangelion listed as running more than nine volumes and Tokyopop has Priest as running more than fourteen. But because both books are still being apparently translated (or adapted) for the American market, the final volume counts for both titles haven't been determined yet--but (so far) they haven't been listed as being canceled or anything.

Manga imported to the U.S. is generally released at a much faster rate than it is originally produced in either Japan or Korea. Some U.S. releases actually catch up. In some cases, it's been known to take more than a year (or even two) between the latest volumes...

In some cases, it could be that the manga-ka has been injured or that they are very ill. They work under heavy deadlines and so they don't take care of themselves like they should. Yuu Watase mentions some of her illnesses and how she ignored them so she could complete what needed to be done.

Of course, it could be much, much longer if the manga-ka(s) stop producing the manga you're following altogether.

Priest Vol. 15 was release last year in Korea and TP hasn't release it here yet for some reason. Vol. 15 is the latest volume and the mangaka has put the title on hiatus to work on a new series for the American Market (according to his artbook).

As for the next volume of Evangelion, here's a link that talks about Evangelion vol. 10 being release in Japan this March. Rumor has it that Sadamoto wasn't interested in doing the manga anymore and only interested in doing character design for anime.

Hopefully this should answer your question.

Thanks for the info.

The only thing left is to sit and cross my fingers that these things actually finish before the the manga-ka give up on it...

Accoring to Ain't It Cool's feature on Priest, it seem like hollywood is going to give it an adaption. Maybe that's some good news for some.
