I've read 10 issues of that series. It's not limited to high school even though alot of the girls that appear are of high school age. It's about the most tragic, sad, horrible, and disturbing things that a teenage girl can go through. They range from the disturbingly realistic and personal (First issue with the cutter girls) to the absolutley absurd and improbable (The one with the teachers using extreme corporal punishment. I think that was the 8th). Those aren't spoilers if anyone is wondering. It's a really good series if you want some drama and it's downright freaky when you find something that you have actually ran into in your own life. The manga is episodic. Non of the issues connect with the last and most have multiple stories in a single issue. I reccomend it.

Confidential Confessions does deal with dramatic issues - suicide, self-mutilation, sexual abuse and so on - but I don't think it works all that well as a drama.
Perhaps Fuyumi Soryo's Mars qualifies as a "high-school drama"? I found it quite readable. |

If you're looking for a serious type of manga, then go for Confidental Confessions. If you're looking for comedy, go for Great Teacher Onizuka. I would recommend Gokusen too but I'm assuming you can't read Japanese... ^^;

Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances) is a great high school drama manga. They also made it into an anime but it only covers Volumes 1 thru 7. The manga has a total of 21 volumes and it just ended in June. Volume 18 is being released in the US in December 2005.

I recommend Kodocha although it may not be a High School drama since one it takes in elementary school all the way to middle school but trust me it's good and really well written.

Oh cool. That's good to hear.
Oh I just remembered I recommend reading I's. The first part of the series takes place during the time the characters are in High School then the 2nd half takes place right after they graduate it's by Masakazu Katsura who did Video Girl AI. So far the first three volumes have been released by VIZ the fourth volume should come out soon. It's a good series you should check it out. manga#2721 |

I"s starts in freshman year of high school, and ends 4-5 years later. I like it, but this series has received some mixed opinions I believe.

Genshiken has finally been released in the states so I guess you can check that out. Although I wouldn't really rate it as a drama. It's more like a situational romantic comedy.
