Ok after like 2 months its time for the return of "is anime an escape for you?". I decided to remake this thread because it seemed to gather a ton of replies. This time not only will you say yes or no but if you don't mind you can give a major reason as to why you use anime as an escape.

Also i'd also like to discuss why anime is their chosen escape other than drugs, alcohol, suicide and etc. This question can apply to those who don't use anime as an escape. If you could give your thoughts on this topic then please go ahead.

For me anime was an escape for me when I was down and out. I pretty much gave out on the "real world" and just decided to keep on watching anime disregarding my own self. I would go hours and hours watching not noticing hunger or fatigue, Of course during that time I had tons of problems that I just didn't bother trying to solve. How I chose anime as an escape I don't know but I found it easier to watch the lives of characters in shows. Seeing their troubles, triumphs and an ending for them that was befitting. By doing this it was like giving up on my own life and just being an observer to other "people". I even began doing that in real life. I just stand in the background and just look on in, watching, observing and waiting. I ended up using the anime that I had viewed as a way to relect on my life and who I am. Sometimes the thoughts got crazy and scary but I got through it. Anyways i'm out of that phase at the moment and who knows if it'll return

As for why people would choose anime as an escape I believe its because in some anime there are events that can relate to real life experiences. I know thats how I felt but maybe its not the same for others. Maybe its some other reason. It could be that watching anime is an easier way out of life than suicide, drugs or alcohol (though it actually is). Anyways thats just my input on this topic.

"Believe it!"

Anime is an escape for me when my health fails which happens quite often Razz

As for why.. I suppose it is because I enjoy watching the characters change and turn things like heartache and sorrow into strength and courage, sounds corny I know. But I love the drama and action and it feels like i'm transported to another world where I am away from the pains of this reality.

(but of course I watch anime all the time not just when im sick hehe Cool )

Peace

I believe anime is an escape for me. I don't have to think about anything else, and I often forget about everything else. I can watch it and not worry about my problems.

Anime is partly an escape for me. it allows me to forget the world that i live in that can sometimes just go plain wrong. as i'm watching an anime (or reading a manga), i can go into a world where things usually work themselves out, usually in a comedic way as well. for example, when we had to put my dog to sleep, Full Metal Alchemist is one of things that helped me out of the gloom and doom of it all. it helped my laugh in other words. I can start to forget about the saddness that the world can bring to a person and just get on with the life i am living.

Anime is an escape for me. I didn't start watching anime as an escape, i started watching it as a hobby but when life go tough i found myslef watching it more more untill now i watch it so much i find myself comparing real people to anime characters (for instance me and my friend call my gym teacher Kakashi). I find that anime has callmed my life down a bit, i used to be agresive and trouble making, now im calmer and just relax and watch everything take place.

holy, if u had not brought up this topic again, I would have not known there are actually so many people out there that is the same as me? Hmmm..... makes one wonder if it is socery at work( I better take this back...I will beaten to death by all the people here)? Haha......Magic more likely.

And for Efan-san, Haha I am glad Anime has made u a better man, (but calling your Gym teacher Kakashi is a little...haha, but anyway what determines that being clamer and more relaxed is a good thing....haha).

Anime is an escape for me because, among all the different sorts of worlds it shows me, there are ones where I feel I wouldn't be condemned for the way I am. I've tried other escapes, but anime is the only one that makes me feel better afterwards instead of worse.

It's an escape the same way any book or movie or show is an escape. It's entertainment and allows me to see things and visit places that could only exist in our imaginations. It's a means more to forget what's around me for a bit, but never truly try to get away from it, just push it aside for a short while.

Anime may have saved me from depression by virtue of being different.

my wife, Sarah, and 2 year old daughter, Nina, had been killed in a car accident with a fool drug junkie high on some substance or other, he rammed head on into their car pulling out while I watched from the door of my house. (if any of you are considering drugs...dont let me know, just dont...)

after that O sank into depression, you may think its just some pathetic condition or an excuse but its not, trust me on this, until you have experienced it(and I sincerely hope you never do) you cant understand what its like.

I tried everything I could think of to try and get out of it, taking up hobbies, moving house, changing jobs, anti depressants everything I could think of.

while I wouldnt go as far as to say anime pulled me out of it, it was a factor simply by virtue of being like nothing I had ever seen before, I embraced all sorts of things, martial arts, buddhism, hinduism, philosophy, history, psychology and anime.

so it matters to me, a lot.

(I cant watch parts of FMA, those who have seen those parts should know why)

sorry to bring the mood down, but I have recovered and am living life as normally as I can now.

I guess you could call it an "escape", escape as in a escape from reality into another dimension where you just spaze and imaginations linger in your head. I guess this is why some people watch anime because its an escape from the real word and you dont have to worry about other people besides your precious disk. I guess the reason why i watch anime because it is an escape its a full fun experience from another persons perspective and all the adventure and joyous features. Its the only resort when your heart is feeling sorrow.

I wouldn't really consider anime an escape for me. I don't completely immerse myself into it. I still have a strong grasp on reality and I'm concious of the real world. Watching anime is simply something I do for fun and enjoyment. My escape from reality is the Internet on sites such as these. It really helps to get away from real people and share feelings with people who won't judge you in any way besides manner.

That's pretty much how I consider anime as an escape for me. I think it really relaxes the mind in a way that watching a sitcom/movie cannot.
