So at the moment I am currently reading Battle Angel Alita: Last Order after finishing up the 9 volumes of Battle Angel Alita and I'm pretty divided with how I feel about it. I know the story behind the first ending and the decision to redo it with Last Order, but as I keep reading my thoughts on Last Order fluctuate. Now just to be clear, I was fine with the first ending and found it satisfying. It does feel rushed, and understandably so, but overall I thought it was a really well done conclusion and one of the few manga series that left me with a clear feeling of how I felt about the ending.

Last Order on the other hand feels different from Battle Angel Alita. Whereas BAA had the feel of it being divided into different segments of Alita's life, Last Order just feels like one long continuous run. It's not that I find it bad, it's just something I'm adjusting to with the way the stories were told in BAA. The main point of that is that LO feels like an entirely new entity separate from BAA.

Now normally I'd be fine with that in most cases, but with LO supposedly being a continuation of BAA with the creator's true intended ending I just can't ignore it. And the biggest difference in feel for me with LO is that LO feels absurdly cartoon-ish at times. I know it's odd for me to say that, but throughout BAA's run it never felt cartoon-ish. It felt like real science fiction with a grounded reality and rules in its own universe.

LO on the other hand goes places where it just loses me and gets me thinking "wtf am I reading?" The biggest examples I can give would be the Space Karate Robots and nanomachine beast Anomaly (spoiler[seriously... Libido Cannon... it's a giant penis and in the scantalations I read, and I'm paraphrasing here, the commentator says he is [expletive] his opponent with his giant penis]). At points like that, though I find it hilarious and entertaining, it loses me and is totally opposite of what I liked about BAA.

However, there are other times where I really enjoyed LO because of the characters. They feel like they belong in the universe of BAA (e.g Ping and Vilma). And it's a times like this where I'm divided on my feelings towards LO. The characters really make it enjoyable, but there are those absurd moments that feel out of place that make me want to drop it and just accept BAA's original ending and that's it.

Well I've shared my thoughts so what are your thoughts on the first ending of Battle Angel Alita and the new direction Last Order is taking BAA in?
