I don't watch Hamtaro and I don't know anyone who does, and I have no memory as to why I was browsing IMDB's Hamtaro "memorable quotes" section a few days ago. I don't know how one gets that bored, but nonetheless, I came across some quotes of interest, especially this:
Hamtaro: [repeated line in the Japanese and English version - But not American] What would Michael Jackson do? And: Boss: [during a fight about Bijou] You asked her out? You dirty ham! I didn't give you to go anywhere near my girl! Stan: Oh, shut up, man, She'll *never* be your girl. Even if she wasn't half your age, [shouts] Stan: Paedophile! Boss: That's "*Mister* Paedophile" to you! Stan: [puzzled look] ... Excuse me? I found some discussion on the forum about the latter quote, but no proof that either of the quotes were ever actually said in any version of the show. I did a Google search and couldn't find those quotes anywhere except IMDB; I find the Michael Jackson one kind of possible since I believe I remember something about some of Hamtaro's dance moves in the closer being patterned after some of Michael Jackson's. The pedophile quote, I'm not so sure about, because although not all anime are intended for children and standards are different in Japan, Hamtaro seems clearly targeted toward younger audiences. Look, don't ask why I know so much about Hamtaro. I watched an episode a couple of years ago to see if it would make good material to parody. It turns out it definitely would be good material to make a spoof of, but I never ended up doing one. Still, I'm really curious about the quotes. Does anyone have any answers? |
