I was watching the anime Gun Frontier the other day (pretty decent show, could have been better though....). Anyway, it got me to wonder, are there any other animes that are in a wild west environment and have outlaw gunslingers or anything like that? Thanks.

Trigun. Best and only Wild West title I know of. Extremely good balance of comedy, action, and drama (in that order). I don't want to give much else away, but it's popularity should speak for itself. I'm surprised you haven't seen it yet.

One of the very first episodes of Galaxy Express 999 takes place on a Wild West-like Mars.

Outlaw Star has a sort of wild west theme to it even though it's a sci-fi series.

Also, there's the Wild Arms series. Thats about it that I've heard of.

Well, matching what you asked exactly, Tony K. already refered Trigun.

Outlaw Star (also fore-mentioned) is kind of like an outlaw/western/pirate-movie themed series based in space, I'd still recommend that though.

Burst Angel as well, it was greatly inspired by those spaghetti-westerns, but its more like the "wild-neo-futuristic-east" as opposed to the "wild-west," but it still has the strong western theme in it. The mech that is used by the main characters is named Jango which is also the name of a famous spaghetti-western saga. Oh, and the four main chicks of this series are outlaw mercenaries in a chaotic society. It should satisfy your taste-buds.

How about that new GunXSword thing? That one's got lotsa ridiculous happenings, and wild west actionings. Or so I hear. I saw one episode of it. Nice animation, but the characters and plot elements all seemed ripped from other sources.
